Rihanna 's topped the UK album charts! "What?" You cry, "but we didn't even know she had a new album out!" Ah, well that's the beauty/horror of the charts in 2012. No one really sells any albums anymore, you see, so releases from ages ago still have plenty of chance to regain their top spot. That's exactly what RiRi's sixth album 'Talk That Talk' - released in November last year - has done, marking its 38th week in the charts and rising from fourth spot last week.
In fairness to the pop star, the album is now close to one million sales in the UK, which is no figure to be sniffed at. What's remarkable though is that despite those figures, and the length of time it's been in the charts, this marks only its second week at the top, after its debut week. Rihanna has toppled the supposed next new singing sensation Conor Maynard, the Youtube smash's debut LP 'Contrast' falling off top spot to sixth, according to the Bbc. Plan B stayed in second place, with American soft rockers Maroon 5 rising one to three.
Emeli Sande's 'Our Version Of Events' was at number four, but the smart money may well be on that to change for the better next week in light of the Scottish singer's prominent appearance at last night's Olympic closing ceremony, which was watched by millions.
