Rihanna's Instagram account was conspicuous by its absence on Tuesday (May 7, 2014) with the social media organization seemingly having yanked the profile offline. Some fans had suggested RiRi's racy pictures had caught up with her, but the company explained to E! Online that it was simply a harmless mistake.

"This account was mistakenly caught in one of our automated systems and very briefly disabled. We apologize for any inconvenience," read a statement. Which is fair enough - but the account remains inactive.  It seems strange that Instagram would delay reinstating one of its most popular profiles if the problem was merely technical?

According to the New York Daily News, Rihanna has already been warned to stop posting nearly nude photos after she added an image from the French skin magazine Lui. It violated the site's nudity rules, though instead of obliging with the request, she posted the same pics on Twitter.

The 26-year-old then returned to Instagram to post a photo-shopped version of herself in what appeared to be a bad high school senior class picture. "Rih's Next Magazine Cover If It Was Up To Instagram," read the caption, following by a sad face emoticon. 

Rihanna hit the headlines earlier this week after being named one of the best dressed at the Met Gala in New York by most fashion critics.
