Influential British film-maker SIR Ridley Scott is in talks to resurrect production of 1970s crime drama AMERICAN GANGSTER.

The movie, starring Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe, focuses on a Harlem drugs baron who smuggles heroin in the coffins of US soldiers during the Vietnam war.

Universal are set to make a decision over financing the picture next week (begs20FEB06), after cancelling its production in 2004 because of budgeting issues.

This would be the second time Scott and Crowe team up after working together on the 2000 blockbuster Gladiator.
