British funnyman Ricky Gervais will quit comedy after the second series of hit show EXTRAS to concentrate on acting in serious dramas. The Office star is desperate to try his hand at something new and insists a "meaty" role away from sitcoms is exactly what he needs to avoid being typecast. The 45-year-old says, "This (Extras) will probably be the last sitcom we do. We'd like to do drama. "We'd like to do something with more weight, like The Sopranos maybe - not necessarily crime but something meaty. Revenge is the best theme." The second series of Extras, which Gervais co-wrote with Stephen Merchant, airs in Britain in September (06).
