Late funk legend Rick James' lethal heart attack may have been caused by a cocktail of drugs that were found in his system, an American coroner claims.

The SUPERFREAK star, who described himself as an "icon of drug use and eroticism" died in his sleep last month (AUG04) aged 56, but yesterday (16SEP04) Los Angeles County Coroner DAVID CAMPBELL ruled his death was accidental but may have been triggered by up to nine illegal substances, including cocaine, methamphetamine and prescription drugs Xanax, Valium, Wellbutrin, Celexa, Vicodin and Digoxin.

Campbell explains, "None of the drugs or drug combinations were found to be at levels that were life-threatening in and of themselves."
