The fitness guru hasn't been seen in public for over two years.
Fitness guru Richard Simmons has addressed rumours that he is transitioning, after the National Enquirer published a story earlier this month saying he was now living as a woman named Fiona. The 67-year-old caused concern a few weeks ago when he was taken to hospital after reportedly exhibiting ‘bizarre behaviour ‘ but he later said his hospitalisation was due to ‘dehydration’.
Richard Simmons has denied he is transitioning.
In a Facebook post Simmons said: “Some tabloids have recently falsely reported that I am transitioning. In response, I feel compelled to set the record straight and refute these lies. Although I am not transitioning, I have and always will be supportive of those who are going through their journey.”
Simmons then paid tribute to the victims of the shooting at Orlando gay nightclub Pulse on Sunday (June 12). “We should not lose focus on showing love, strength and compassion to all of the LGBT community during these tragic times,” he continued. “My broken heart and healing thoughts are with the people of Orlando and all other victims of prejudice, bigotry and hate.”
The fitness guru had last posted on Facebook earlier this month, after his hospitalisation. “Thank you to everyone who has reached out with love and concern after hearing I was in the hospital.,” he told fans, “I was dehydrated and needed some fluids and now I am feeling great!”
Simmons’ rep had previously denied reports he was transitioning, calling the Enquirer’s story ‘not true’. "It's not true," Tom Estey told People. "He is not transitioning into a woman. He has decided to live quietly the last few years.”
“He was in the public eye for over three decades, but he deserves his privacy. He should be able to have a private life. He just needed a break,” Estey added. “He is still taking care of the people who need his help."
