Henry: Portrait Of A Serial Killer Review

Excellent
In 1986, a Chicago-based film producer gave young music video director and former boat-builder John McNaughton some cash to make his first feature, a teen slasher film. McNaughton came back with Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, a movie so distant from the genre that he might as well have submitted a Care Bears short.

Which is not to say that there's anything cuddly about this brutal story, loosely inspired by the crimes of real-life convicted murderer Henry Lee Lucas. (They really always have three names, don't they?) As the title character, Michael Rooker murders people, sometimes by the family, with all the joy of a smack addict numbly shooting his semi-daily fix. The Borrower Review

Bad
The Borrower is another movie in which a hideous, murderous space creature (which looks like a low-budget version of the monster in Alien) runs to Earth, borrows human heads and wanders around Chicago. The creature kills many people. In the sequel, it will kill a lot more. Sooner or later, we'll all die of old age.

The Borrower, directed by John McNaughton (who directed Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, briefly mentioned in this film), is one more movie in this hoary tradition. Movies just like this air weekly on cable, so why do actors, writers and directors bother to make more? Why not just show one from a couple of years back that nobody saw?
