Richard E. Grant says his scent Jack was a ''labour of love'' inspired by designer Anya Hindmarch.
Richard E. Grant has created a ''lickably moreish'' fragrance.
The 'Withnail and I' actor says his new scent Jack - which retails at £95 - is made up of his ''favourite'' notes and combining them had been a long-held dream of his so he found the process of creating the perfume to be a ''labour of love''.
He explained to Britain's Glamour magazine: ''It has been an intense labour of love. [Perfumier] Alienor Massenet converted my favourite ingredients into the lickably moreish unisex scent I had long dreamed of capturing.''
Richard made the surprising move into creating a fragrance on the suggestion of designer Anya Hindmarch, but he initially thought his friend was suggesting he should have therapy for his obsession with smells.
He explained: ''I've been obsessed with smelling everything for as long as I can remember. I was on holiday in the Caribbean two years ago and my friend Anya Hindmarch, seeing me with my head in a gardenia bush, asked if I was going to do something about it.
'''You mean psychiatrically?', I asked. 'No, create a perfume', she said. Anya was the catalyst and gave me a list of people to contact.''
