God's Army Review


Weak
The Mormons got their own movie, which was huge in Salt Lake City, called God's Army. The film is almost exactly what you'd expect: earnest, amateurish, and embarassingly pro-church. The film is about Mo missionaries in Los Angeles, bringing the Word of God to the Godless while battling their own quirks and humanism.

While I was impressed that one character repeatedly questions some of the more tenuous tenets of Mormon theology, the film ultimately tells us not to worry about all that, and that if you're Mormon you can even heal the crippled with your prayers. Writer/director Richard Dutcher also stars in the film (alongside a creepy looking Matthew A. Brown), and his hateful bastard character (he may have brain cancer, but he's still a total jerk) is reason alone to run screaming from this film. (Not to mention, the character makes the Mormon church look pretty bad.)
