However, Curtis wasn't a fan of the outlandish fashions and tried desperately to change Nighy's mind, but he refused - and looking back, the filmmaker is relieved the star stood his ground.
He tells Britain's Guardian newspaper, "I've made so many mistakes in my career. I voted against Hugh Grant being cast in Four Weddings (And A Funeral). And here, I had so many arguments about toning down Bill's costumes, but Bill was having none of it."
