British beauty Rhona Mitra's mother is so determined the actress should stay close to her Irish roots while living in California, she's sent over a batch of potatoes.

The London-born screen star is currently living in Hollywood where she films episodes in legal drama The Practice, and her mother is hell bent on ensuring she never forgets her upbringing.

Mitra says, "I live in California at the moment, which is 6,000 miles away from Ireland. My mum lives there and she does everything in her power to make sure that I try and remain as Irish as possible, because California is so vastly different.

"Her attempts stretch as far as when I very first moved, she actually sent me some potatoes, because although Ireland's not famous for its food, its spuds are really phenomenal and she believes that they'll keep me rooted.

"So she actually sent me potatoes to plant in my garden. God bless her."
