Red Hot Chili Peppers

Review of Red Hot Chili Peppers live at Manchester MEN Arena on November 14, 2011

Following the release of their tenth studio album, 'I'm With You', earlier this year the Red Hot Chili Peppers are on their first UK arena tour with new guitarist Josh Klinghoffer. The band will move onto mainland Europe, but return in June for massive outdoor shows in Dublin, Sunderland and Knebworth.

After opening with a rousing 'Monarchy Of Roses', the Chilis have a choice to make - do they focus on promoting their latest record, pleasing the mainstream, or satisfying older fans? With such a gargantuan back catalogue it would be difficult to do all three and ultimately - and pleasingly - they fall between the latter two options. Whilst 'The Adventures Of Rain Dance Maggie' and 'Look Around' sit in the set comfortably, favourites such as 'Otherside' and 'Dani California' are greeted rapturously from an enthusiastic crowd who get the energy returned from the brightly lit stage. Anthony Kiedis and Flea bounce around with more energy than men half their age, while Klinghoffer is so engrossed in his dextrous guitar antics that you fear he'll crash into something or someone - but doesn't. The mid-set placing of 'Under The Bridge' is a nice surprise, but of more joy to keener fans are the inclusions of 'Blood Sugar Sex Magik' and 'Sir Psycho Sexy', classics that perhaps get overlooked for more commercial tracks. In some ways it is a brave gamble - 'Scar Tissue' and 'Universally Speaking' being examples of omissions tonight - but it just about works, particularly when the likes of 'Can't Stop' and 'Californication' still thrill. With one signature tune performed it is inevitable that 'Give It Away' closes proceedings, and it does so in fine style, giving the crowd one last opportunity to get their funk on. Based on this evidence the events next year should be amongst the summer highlights.

Richi Mark reviewed Red Hot Chili Peppers at Ticketmaster and gave it 1 out of 5 stars. The Chilis were well fab but we didnt get to see the end..!! a fight broke out in the row in front of us.. the security steward was too busy watching the show than noticing! when we got his attention to tell him he came back with a gremlin looking security guard who grabbed my friend by the throat and dragged him into the aisle!!! (yes you read right a MEN ARENA member of staff assulted a random customer!!!) i told the security guy to get off him and we said that we have nothing to do with the fight and he let go in the end and approached the actual idiots who were fighting.. i asked a female security guard if i could speak to a manager and she BLANKED ME! im outraged by this.. he sent all details to the MEN for a FULL REFUND and the lady who was USELESS at helping said all of the above happend but the security/stewards deny assaulting my friend.. she has taken the side of liars and we are suing the crap out of them.. MORAL OF THE STORY: DONT TRUST M.E.N AREA STAFF THEY LIE AND DENY ANYTHING EVER HAPPENS AND THEY COULD GET AWAY WITH MURDER DOING THIS AS THEY ALL STICK UP FOR EACH OTHER AND VOUCH 100% FOR EACH OTHER. WHATEVER HAPPEND TO THE CUSTOMER BEING RIGHT, EVEN THERE LOWSY COMPLAINTS SUPPORT LIED! THEY ARE CALLED ME AND MY FRIEND LIARS!!!!!! AND THEY SAID THAT THEY WOULDNT DARE LIE AT ALL TO SAVE THEIR OWN JOBS AND BACKSIDES HMMMM YEAH RIGHT.. MANCHESTER M.E.N ARENA IS 100% CRAP AND A SERIOUS DANGER TO PEOPLES WELLBEING AND HEALTH AND THEY OFFER NO SUPPORT NOR ADMIT TO MISTAKES DO NOT DEAL WITH THE STAFF WHO ARE TO BLAME. LOOK AT IT THIS WAY, IF A GIRL GOT RAPED BY A MEMBER OF THEIR SECURITY, WOULD THEY STILL GET AWAY WITH IT BY LYING AND TAKING EACH OTHERS WORD FOR IT THAT THEY DIDNT DO IT?? HMMM I ACTUALLY THINK THEY WOULD LIE TO COVER THEIR BACKS AGAIN!! THEY DONT GIVE A CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
