Top rockers REM, Ash, Primal Scream and Badly Drawn Boy have joined forces to record an album to help Sudanese refugees fleeing violence in the country's Darfur region.

Roots Manuva, Faithless, David Gray and Jet have all contributed to Oxfam's disc SONGS FOR SUDAN which is released today (03SEP04).

Badly Drawn Boy star DAMON GOUGH laments, "Men, women and children are dying every day in Sudan.

"People like us might not have the power to stop the violence, but at least we can try to help the people affected by it.

"Oxfam is already savings lives, the least we can do is help them to have more."

Over 1.2 million people have left their homes after Arab militia group the JANJAWEED entered Darfur, which has resulted in an estimated 50,000 deaths.
