REM concluded their world tour in spectacular style on Saturday (16JUL05) night, by inviting punk legend Patti Smith to perform with them on stage in London's Hyde Park.

The HORSES singer joined the MICHAEL STIPE-fronted band to sing E-BOW THE LETTER, which she recorded with the band in 1996.

And despite struggling to remember the lyrics, Smith thrilled fans, who included Coldplay frontman Chris Martin and his wife Gwyneth Paltrow, with her vocal prowess.

The REM gig was performed a week later than planned due to the terrorist bombings in the English capital on 7 July (05).
