Saturday Night Lives' Seth Meyer has been heavily tipped to take over from the ever-popular Regis Philbin on daytime talk show Live! With Regis and Kelly, nearly eight-months after the octogenarian announced his retirement from their popular syndicated daytime talk show.

Since Regis retired from the show, co-host Kelly Ripa has relied on an on-going reel of often high-profile guest hosts, but now it seems that the search for a new Regis may finally be over.

Reports from various sources including The LA Times, have been growing ever higher since the announcement that the 38-year-old comedian is due to return for another weeklong engagement beginning this Monday. Meyer has already been a guest host with Ripa on the morning show, however his most recent appointment comes at an important week for ratings for the network.

Should Meyer be appointed full-time, he will have pipped fellow part-time co-hosts including Joel McHale, Neil Patrick Harris, Anderson Cooper, Jerry Seinfeld, Michael Buble, and even Ripa's husband, actor Mark Consuelos to the post.

This method of appointment is of course not unfamiliar for the show, as Ripa's appointment arose in a similar kind of fashion when she eventually replaced Kathie Lee Gifford in 2000, after producers of the show similarly waited almost a year to decide on a full-time replacement.
