Reese Witherspoon has a very special reason to mourn the death of her heroine JUNE CARTER CASH - she's portraying her in a new biopic.
The LEGALLY BLONDE star will take on the project after giving birth to her second child later this year (03), but she's disappointed that she never got the chance to meet the legend before she died last month (JUN03).
The actress says, "I never got to meet her and I'm very sad about that. I got the call a couple of weeks ago that she died and talked to the director that's working on the film.
"It was really sad for me because that was the most exciting thing about it - meeting her at last. I played her in a fourth grade play, and I still have a lot of research material about her and her family.
"She was just a country legend and I think back to what her whole family meant to me growing up in Nashville, and loving country music."
Witherspoon admits that Carter Cash's death has added to the pressures of playing her - because she wants her portrayal to be a fitting tribute.
She adds, "The director wanted to know if I can sing, but we'll see how it goes. I think it's still a really interesting story. I really want the family to be proud of this project."06/07/2003 20:56
