Reese Witherspoon was "super excited" to meet Catherine, Duchess Of Cambridge at a fundraising event because she dreams of becoming friends with the British royal.
The Hollywood actress was introduced to the duchess and her husband, Prince William, during the couple's 2011 royal visit to the U.S., and the Legally Blonde star admits she was delighted to be given a chance to meet her idol.
She tells U.S. TV host Ellen DeGeneres, "Somebody called me and said, 'We're having a really small fundraiser would you want to come over and meet the prince and princess?' I was like, 'Yes!' My husband (agent Jim Toth) just thought I was so dorky.
"He was like, 'Why are you so excited?' I must have tried on like six outfits. 'I'm meeting a princess. You don't understand. You have to be wearing the right outfit and the whole thing. I don't know, maybe we can be friends.'
"So we went and it's always funny. Whenever I am super excited about things, my husband calls it the double barrel. That's when I smile so big I look like a child... I was so excited to meet her. Y'all, she's a princess."
However, when DeGeneres asked whether Witherspoon managed to make friends with the royal, she replied, "I would like to hang out. I'm not sure she wants to hang out with me... She was really nice. She was lovely," before looking into the camera and pleading, "Call me. Call me anytime."
