Burger took charge of the first sci-fi film, based on Veronica Roth's best-selling novels about life in a dystopian world, but he was forced to scrap plans to helm the follow-up, Insurgent, due to scheduling difficulties - he is still working on post-production for Divergent, which is scheduled for release in the U.S. in March (14).
Schwentke has now been handed the reigns of the franchise, which stars Shailene Woodley, and he will begin pre-production on Insurgent, which is scheduled for release in March, 2015, reports Deadline.com.
The third film in the trilogy, Allegiant, is expected to follow a year later. It is not yet known if Schwentke or Burger will be involved in that instalment.
