Red Hot Chili Peppers star John Frusciante has confirmed he's left the band, insisting he quit "over a year ago".
The Give It Away hitmakers reconvened earlier this year (09) after a two year hiatus which saw the musicians concentrate on their own side projects. Recent rumours suggested the guitarist decided not to re-join the band, so he could continue working on his solo career.
Frusciante admits the rumours of his departure are true, but he exited the group at least 12 months ago.
In a blog post on his official website, he writes, "When I quit the band, over a year ago, we were on an indefinite hiatus. There was no drama or anger involved, and the other guys were very understanding. They are supportive of my doing whatever makes me happy and that goes both ways. To put it simply, my musical interests have led me in a different direction."
Frusciante has reportedly been replaced by session guitarist Josh Klinghoffer until a full-time axeman can be found.
