Maggie Gyllenhaal, in a recent interview, claimed ageism is still rife in Hollywood.
Maggie Gyllenhaal was told 37 was too old to play the lover of a 55-year-old male character. The Honourable Woman actress was turned down for a part in a film because she was considered past her prime, according to one film's casting executives. Gyllenhaal described the humiliation and anger she felt after receiving such poor treatment and, in a recent interview, called the casting community, and Hollywood at large, out on their ageism and hypocrisy.

The film made $70.3 million in the US and Canada alone and its soundtrack is following suit.

The ‘Pitch Perfect’ star has been accused of lying about her age, but has proof she’s 35 been found?
Pitch Perfect 2 actress Rebel Wilson has been at the center of an identity controversy this week, after an Australian tabloid accused her of lying about her age and real name. But while the actress has so far denied the claims the evidence might now be too much for her to ignore, as another Australian newspaper has done even more digging into her past.
Wilson has been hit by rumours that she’s actually 35.
On Monday an article titled ‘Will the real Rebel Wilson please stand up?,’ appeared on the website of Woman’s Day magazine, claiming the star was actually 36 (not 29) and that her real name was Melanie Elizabeth Bownds.

'Pitch Perfect' star Rebel Wilson is seen out and about in New York surrounded by eager young fans with whom she consents to take photos and even hug as her security team stay close by.
The Australian star unexpectedly revealed that she dislikes performing karaoke, unlike her "Fat Amy" character from the box office topper.
With Pitch Perfect 2 sitting pretty at the top of American box offices, one of its stars has revealed that she secretly dislikes singing in public and will only do so if she’s getting paid.
Rebel Wilson, who plays Patricia “Fat Amy” in the popular film franchise, told Glamour magazine in a new interview that although fans may assume that she enjoys singing because her character does so in the movie, in real life she hates it!
“A lot of people think - because we sing in the movie and whatever - that we would do karaoke, but I have a thing against karaoke,” she revealed. “The microphones are never good quality, they have always been dropped, and a lot or people are screaming into them and the vocal sound quality is never the right mix and I'm like, 'No!' I'll sing in a movie when I'm getting paid.”

It's ladies' rule this weekend at the box office.
It’s Pitch Perfect 2 weekend and the Friday-Sunday box office reflects that. With an unexpected $70,3 million domestic gross, the musical comedy blew past Mad Max: Fury Road to become the box office champion this weekend.
Anna Kendrick returns in the musical comedy about rival Acapella groups.
Meanwhile, the Mad Max reboot made a modest $44.4 million, falling behind the Brownstone production flick, according to the LA Times. Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson and co. returnas members of the misfit college singing group the Bellas. Actress Elizabeth Banks – aka our favourite TV republican Avory Jessup (30 Rock) and second favourite Capitol citizen Effy Trinket (The Hunger Games) - makes her directorial debut, as well as reprises her role as an acerbic commentator.

There's was a lot more action to Pitch Perfect 2 than it seems.
The surprise hit of 2012 was Pitch Perfect, a comedy that has become a cult classic in the intervening years. So it's no surprise that it sparked a sequel. And the cast was up for the challenge. "To me, it felt like the pressure was off because I knew people wanted to see Pitch Perfect 2," says the film's star Anna Kendrick. "When you do almost every other film, you have no idea if anybody's going to be interested in sitting down and watching your stupid movie."
Pitch Perfect 2 unites the gang
For her the toughest part was getting her voice in shape to perform the a cappella numbers. "This is so much work," she admits. "You have to treat your body like a temple all the time. I could do it for a month, but sometimes I want to have fast food and a beer. I don't care for physical activity!"

In 2012, Pitch Perfect came out of nowhere to become one of the most-loved comedies in recent memory, and the good news is that this sequel matches it with both spiky humour and buoyant music. It would be impossible recreate the surprise of watching the original, but the cast and crew make up for that by kicking everything off with an outrageously rude prologue (complete with the biggest cameo imaginable), and the comedy that follows is relentlessly hilarious.
It's been three years, and the Bellas are now in their final year at university, having won three more a cappella National Championships along the way. Then they're disgraced by a wardrobe malfunction at a triumphant performance for the US President's birthday. Suspended by officials, their only chance to redeem themselves is to win the World Championships in Copenhagen. So Beca (Anna Kendrick) and her sidekicks Fat Amy (Rebel Wilson) and Chloe (Brittany Snow) rally the troops to prepare to take on the fearsome reigning champions Das Sound Machine. And there's a new Bella on the team as well: freshman Emily (Hailee Steinfeld), who is dabbling in songwriting.
Along with this central plot, Kay Cannon's script also weaves in a series of side-stories for each of the central cast members involving decisions about the future and romantic entanglements. All of these are a bit feeble, but they add layers of comedy, drama and even some meaning, although there isn't a single surprise along the way. Still, it's consistently amusing, as every line of dialogue has a witty joke in it, and the performances crackle with improvisational silliness that's genuinely infectious. Once again, the seriously gifted Kendrick is effortlessly charismatic as the natural leader of the gang, while the class-clown Wilson steals every scene with her random gags. Steinfeld offers a fresh blast of energy and talent in her role, although the perky Snow is somewhat sidelined this time.

The 29-year-old actress insists she loves her unusual moniker and thinks there are worse things to be called.
Asked how her parents came up with it, she said: "A little girl named Rebel sang at my parents' wedding. My mum is really big on theme names like that - my sisters are called Liberty and Annachi, and my brother is Ryot. I did pretty well in comparison. I love it.
"You can't be a shrinking violet if you have a name like Rebel. It gives me an edge and helps me not give in to my fears. I try to live that way."
Meanwhile, the 'Pitch Perfect 2' star claims she only gets offered roles that other actresses turn down.

While Rebel Wilson is already talking about coming back for a third film, Anna Kendrick is appearing more hesitant, and waiting to see how 'Pitch Perfect 2' connects with audiences first.
'Pitch Perfect 2' isn't even out yet, but as with all things Hollywood these days, its already time to start talking about sequels. Following the huge success of the much-loved 2012 film, Rebel Wilson was one of the first people to get involved with the upcoming sequel only two months after the release. Again, she has expressed her interest in appearing in the third film, while Anna Kendrick seems to be more interested in waiting a while before jumping on board. Well, at least until the film is released.
'Pitch Perfect 2' is out on 15th May 2015
In a recent interview with TIME, Kendrick explained that "I'm not one to count my chickens, so I just want to see how this one does and find out if there's an appetite for that before I even think about it". 'Pitch Perfect 2' isn't out in theatres for another week, although it saw its US premiere in Las Vegas on 20th April 2015.

MTV Movie Awards bring out the stars, as does the Avengers 2 premiere in Los Angeles. Matthias Schoenaerts is accompanied by costars Kate Winslet and Carey Mulligan at two London premieres. And we get further glimpses of a Western with Michael Fassbender, the next Terminator action romp and Paul Rudd as a tiny superhero in Ant-Man...
The MTV Movie Awards caught the headlines this week, not for their offbeat winners but for the usual antics of the stars who were in attendance. Those on hand to walk the blue carpet included multiple winner Shailene Woodley as well as Jennifer Lopez, Scarlett Johansson, Hailee Steinfeld, Rebel Wilson, Miles Teller, Mark Ruffalo, Michael B. Jordan, Cara Delevingne and Nat Wolff.
Actually, all of the Marvel Avengers were at the awards, then reassembled two nights later for the Los Angeles premiere of Avengers: Age of Ultron, which opens next week. This time the carpet was red, and attendees included Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Samuel L. Jackson, Paul Rudd and Paul Bettany.
Rebel Wilson is returning for Pitch Perfect 3.
Pitch Perfect 2 may not even have made it to cinemas yet, but its star Rebel Wilson has revealed that she's already signed up for the third movie. The comedy actress, 29, told the Los Angeles Times that she would be back for Pitch Perfect 2 - though studio Universal is yet to confirm the movie and there's no word on whether Anna Kendrick will be back.

"News: Rebel Wilson just told me there will be a 3rd @PitchPerfect and she recently signed on to be in it! (She doesn't know abt Kendrick.)," said the Times reporter Amy Kaufman.

The ‘Pitch Perfect’ actress has opened up about finding her style and the struggles of comedy actresses in Hollywood.
Actress Rebel Wilson has said she feels a fashion responsibility to her fans because of the lack of women in Hollywood her size and age. The 29 year old was speaking in this month's issue of Elle magazine about her new found Hollywood status ahead of the release of her latest movie Pitch Perfect 2.
Rebel Wilson is becoming more comfortable with fashion.
“‘I am the type of girl with zero fashion sense but I am getting into it now. It’s becoming important for me. I saw a lot of girls were beginning to notice what I wear and I feel a kind of responsibility, because there aren’t any women in Hollywood my size and age,” Wilson said.
Suspended after an unfortunate incident of accidental nudity during a performance of Miley Cyrus' 'Wrecking Ball', the spunky all-girls a cappella singing group the Barden Bellas are subsequently replaced by European champions Das Sound Machine. They've got a lot of work to do if they want to win the World Championships and beat their rivals, and while they've certainly got both the attitude and more than enough talent having previously succeeded at winning the National stakes, whether or not their ideas can bring them further fortune is another matter. Nonetheless, they have each other, and that's the most important thing for them to hold on to right now as now they face more than just embarrassment and Europeans, but prejudice and heavy doubt from the organisers.

The Barden Bellas are back after their impressive victory in a national a cappella chorus competition, where they proved the strength of girl power over some of the biggest choirs in the country. Beca, Emily, Chloe, Aubrey, Cynthia-Rose, Stacie, Lilly, Jessica and Fat Amy have got bigger fish to fry these days, as they eye up global competition ahead of the daunting international contest. They may have bags of confidence, but as no American chorus has ever managed to land the coveted prize before, it may not be enough to get them through this time. Nonetheless, it's time these girls tested their odds against the greatest collective voices on the planet, even if their new rivals are showing some seemingly matchless talent.

If there's one place were Owen Wilson feels at home, it's the 'Night At The Museum' set.
It's probably true when it comes to most family comedies that being involved is less stressful than a more serious drama, but Owen Wilson feels that doesn't ring more true than on the set of 'Night Of The Museum: Secret Of The Tomb'.
There may be a lot of chaos what with wild animals and cavemen running loose in London, but 'Night At The Museum' is a set that star Owen Wilson, who plays miniature cowboy Jedediah in the franchise, feels right at home on - mainly because of the stellar cast he has surrounding him. 'Working with Ben Stiller... we've worked together on a lot of things and for me it's just very familiar and very comfortable', he explains. 'And then Steve Coogan and Ben Stiller, that's who my scenes are usually always with... those guys just made me laugh.'
Now in its third instalment, it's clearer than ever that this franchise is based on one joke that has been stretched far beyond the breaking point. And not too cleverly at that. Fortunately, this movie retains much of the deranged idiocy that made the second part rather enjoyable. So it's watchable even if there aren't many new ideas, and even if filmmaker Shawn Levy is far too happy to settle for unnecessary digital effects work where a bit of character comedy would have been much more engaging.
Back on the job as a night watchman in New York, Larry (Ben Stiller) is now orchestrating the museum exhibits when they come to life to provide spectacular shows for visitors who think this is all a special effect. Even his boss (Ricky Gervais) isn't sure what's really going on. But when a glitch in the magical Ancient Egyptian powers causes chaos, Larry learns that he needs to travel to London so he can reunite Ahkmenrah (Rami Malek) with his father (Ben Kingsley), who's on display at the British Museum. Larry's teen son Nick (Skyler Gisondo) comes along, as do his revived pals Teddy Roosevelt (Robin Williams), tiny soldiers Octavius and Jedediah (Steve Coogan and Owen Wilson) and others. But in London, while sneaking around local night guard Tilly (Rebel Wilson), Larry's team awakens a statue of the knight Lancelot (Dan Stevens), who dives into their quest with rather a bit too much gusto.
Until Lancelot turns up, everything about the film feels oddly tired, from the starry cameos to effects work that strains to be clever. Then Stevens injects a badly needed jolt of blue-eyed charisma and warped comical timing that makes the rest of the movie rather good fun. Rebel Wilson's side-plot is also rather amusing, with some wonderfully ridiculous touches. And even the cameos get better, notably a scene on a West End stage that's genuinely inspired silliness. Coogan and Wilson offer some raucous banter to accompany everything that happens, and Stiller kind of hangs on for dear life. But the filmmakers don't really care about these characters; they're just trying to create something visually impressive that's also goofy fun.

Rebel Wilson posed alongside Crystal the Monkey on the red carpet at the New York premiere of 'Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb'. Crystal, who plays Dexter in the movie, appeared to have a rather firm grip on Wilson's perfectly preened hair, though no damaged was caused when the pair parted ways.
The Barden Bellas are finally going international - and this time, it's personal.
After raising the roof with their angelic a cappella chorus in 'Pitch Perfect', college crooners The Barden Bellas are back to show the world what they're made of as they go international in the much anticipated 'Pitch Perfect 2'.
Anna Kendrick returns for 'Pitch Perfect 2'
It seemed fortune was on their side in the first movie when they were spectacularly invited into the semi-finals of the national a cappella singing competition and thus went on to win it with a heart-warming rendition of 'Don't You (Forget About Me)' from 'The Breakfast Club'. But now it seems they could be pushing themselves too far as they venture forth into the daunting international contest - a competition that no American group has ever won before. Apparently, because no-one likes Americans. Go figure.

When the mystical powers of the Tablet of Ahkmenrah that animates that museum’s exhibits at night begin to die out, Larry Daley (Ben Stiller) realises he must travel the globe and meet up with new characters and old favourites in order to restore the artefact’s powers before it disappears forever. Cue a journey to London!
Following on from the discovery that New York Natural History Museum's exhibits come to life after dark, security guard Larry Daley (Ben Stiller) is faced with a new problem. After confronting the curator, Dr. McPhee (Ricky Gervais), about the exhibits steadily losing consciousness, Daley and friends must travel to England to try to restore power to The Tablet of Ahkmenrah - the ancient artefact that grants life to the museum. In an adventure which spans the globe, Daley and company must meet up with new characters in an attempt to restore the magic before the figures lives end permanently.

The network has made its final call on the freshmen series to debut this year
ABC have extended their Tuesday night sitcoms The Goldbergs and Trophy Wife to full seasons, adding nine episodes to the thirteen already being produced. Their fate has been shared by the comedy Super Fun Night, which was given four additional episodes, bringing its total to 17 episodes, with the news coming soon after the network's decision to extend Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for a full season run.
The Goldbergs have been given a full season run
Not all of the freshmen series have been quite so successful, with the James Cann-starrer Back in the Game coming to an end after 13 episodes. Lucky 7 has also been dropped following an unimpressive run, whilst fellow new series Betrayal was only planned as a 'limited' 13-episode season and won't be returning. The information was released by ABC at the beginning of the month, with The Hollywood Reporter publishing the information.
Spirited and very funny, this movie should actually be rather disturbing since it's a true story about torture and murder. But director Michael Bay is so slick with the action and comedy elements that he lulls audiences to sleep, entertaining us with events that really should send chills down our spines. So the movie feels rather tasteless when you begin to think about it.
Wahlberg stars as Daniel, an obsessive bodybuilder in 1990s Miami who works as a personal trainer at a local gym. But he's becoming increasingly annoyed by the fact that his clients are much wealthier than he is. So he convinces his steroid-addicted colleague Adrian (Mackie) to help him kidnap a customer (Shalhoub) and steal his fortune. Realising that they need some help, they enlist born-again ex-con Paul (Johnson) in their plan. But none of them is very smart, and the kidnapping goes badly wrong from the start. Still, they manage to steal quite a lot before a tenacious private detective (Harris) notices something isn't right.
For a story that deals with such intensely serious themes, this is an oddly broad comedy. Bay never even tries to find dark irony here; he just focusses on how stupid these criminals are, convinced that they are as cool as the characters from their favourite movies and eerily unbothered by the fact that they are inflicting pain and even death on people for their own greedy ends. The actors inhabit the roles with a disarming naivete, so we can't help but laugh at their idiotic actions. Wahlberg plays Daniel as a muscle-head so focussed on getting what he wants that he doesn't notice the carnage in his wake; Mackie at least gives Adrian a sense of self-doubt, plus some comical romance (with scene-stealer Wilson); and Johnson has a tricky role as a religious guy with a weakness for drugs and women.

One day, Franklin finds himself in a spot of bother when he accidentally murders his landlord Mr. Olivetti when he pays him a visit about the rent (of lack of it). Things don't get any easier either, as his Franklin's brother dies suddenly from a brain tumour and he ends up getting badly beaten in the street. Will Franklin find that future that he dreams of? Or will his tedious life gradually spiral further out of control?

Daniel Lugo is a former criminal whose passion lies in his love for fitness and bodybuilding. When he is hired at the particularly notorious Sun Gym in Florida - a place where the pressure is on to get as big as possible, and where steroids are for sale in the locker rooms - he finds enjoyment there initially before deciding that his low wage wasn't worth it and sets out to organise a criminal method of gaining fortune and fame. He teams up with part-time gym worker Adrian Doorbal and another bodybuilder and former criminal Paul Doyle to set up a plan of extortion and kidnapping against another man, Victor Kershaw, who also has a criminal past. Despite Daniel promising Paul that there would be no-one harmed in their plot to take ownership of all Kershaw's assets, things get out of hand, people end up murdered and they find themselves on the run from the police led by detective Ed Du Bois.
'Pain & Gain' is an action comedy directed by Michael Bay ('Bad Boys', 'Pearl Harbor', 'Transformers') and written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely ('The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe').
