Former BEVERLY HILLS 90210 star Rebecca Gayheart remains so distraught about her 2001 traffic accident which left a nine-year-old boy dead, she's still going through therapy.

The 32-year-old actress' borrowed vehicle struck JORGE CRUZ JR as she drove through Los Angeles, and she admits she's never completely come to terms with the horrific accident.

She says, "It's something that is with me every day, and it will be for the rest of my life.

"I couldn't really function for a while. I just got to a point where I realised I needed help. I got into therapy. I've been in therapy since then. It's really been helpful.

"I don't think anyone could sit and say they got over something like this. I just don't think that's possible. It hasn't been for me."

Gayheart paid for the boy's funeral and settled a wrongful death lawsuit with his parents in 2002 - but she no longer has contact with the family.

She admits, "After a certain point, I think they didn't want to have contact with me, which I completely understand. I can imagine how they feel. They are in my prayers every day."

Gayheart, currently starring in the Broadway production of STEEL MAGNOLIAS, credits her new husband Eric Dane with helping her get through her tough times.

She adds, "I feel lucky I found him. He definitely appeared in my life at the right time."
