British comedian Frankie Boyle is under pressure to apologise to U.K. Olympic swimmer Rebecca Adlington after insulting her looks in a post on
The funnyman angered sports fans by attacking the athlete just days before she was due to compete in the London 2012 Games.
Taking to his Twitter page, Boyle wrote, "I worry that Rebecca Adlington will have an unfair advantage in the swimming by possessing a dolphin's face."
The star was bombarded with messages from members of the public demanding he apologise to Adlington, but he failed to take action and simply removed the offending tweet from the social networking site.
Fellow British comedian David Walliams even waded into the controversy on Saturday (28Jul12) by standing up for the swimmer via Twitter, writing, "I have met and spoken on the 'phone to double Olympic Gold Medal swimmer Rebecca Adlington. And she is a beautiful woman, inside and out... it is disappointing that anyone would want to be mean about her appearance. Rebecca's an absolute inspiration, and a really lovely lady. Let's get behind all our Team GB athletes now!"
However, defiant Boyle has continued to stand his ground and took to on Sunday (29Jul12).
In a cheeky post, he writes, "I have an apology for the people of Britain. Sadly it's written on the end of my c**k in a braille you can only read with your tonsils."
