Razorlight frontman Johnny Borrell has dismissed criticism his band owes much of its style to The Strokes and FRANZ FERDINAND - by proclaiming his songwriting brilliance.

Borrell, who is often accused of being arrogant by his detractors, claims his lyrics will affect how people think about their daily existence.

He says, "The thing is I really write great songs. There's a voice in me that's screaming to people to fill their lives with some integrity.

"I want to let them know that there's something out there that is more substantial than breakfast, lunch and dinner.

"Also, we've got the best rhythm section in rock music of any band. If anybody wants to show me a rhythm section that's better, I'd love to see it."
