British film hardman Ray Winstone is heading back in time to play one of CHARLES DICKENS' most famous characters in a TV re-telling of classic novel Great Expectations.
Bosses at the Bbc are planning to celebrate the bicentenary of the legendary British author's birth in 2012 by transforming the story into a TV extravaganza.
Great Expectations will be the main event of the celebrations and Winstone has signed up to play big-hearted convict Magwitch in the show.
He says, "Great Expectations is my favourite novel and I'm thrilled to be playing Magwitch. I've wanted to play him for ages. I'm really excited to take on the story and can't wait to get stuck in."
The three-part programme will be aired at Christmas (Dec11) and is set to start filming in London in the summer (11).
