American TV star Ray Romano has toppled Frasier's Kelsey Grammer and the cast of Friends to become the richest small screen star.

The comic has struck a deal that will make him the highest-paid actor in TV with a salary close to $50 million (GBP33.3 million) for the upcoming eighth season of Everybody Loves Raymond.

The new deal will pay Romano about $1.7 million (GBP1.13 million) per episode - up from his current salary of roughly $800,000 (GBP533,300) per episode.
