Late R&B legend Ray Charles' grandson left the The X Factor judges stunned on Tuesday (10Jul12) when he auditioned for a spot on the hit U.S. reality show.
Britney Spears, Demi Lovato, Simon Cowell and Antonio 'L.A.' Reid were checking out the talent at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex in North Carolina when a young wannabe with good genes stepped out onto the stage.
A source tells The Hollywood Reporter, "This guy came on and told the judges a story about how his grandmother was in the movies and after they'd been talking for a few minutes, they finally realised that Ray Charles was his grandfather. The judges were massively surprised."
It is not yet known if the he made it past the audition round - the new season of The X Factor kicks off on 13 September (12). The identity of the contender's parents remains unclear.
Charles' grandson isn't the only celebrity offspring to try out for the show - Gene Simmons' 20-year-old daughter Sophie auditioned in June (12).
Tuesday turned out to be an interesting day for the judges - Spears, Lovato and L.A. Reid walked off the set after a disillusioned wannabe butchered Britney's hit (You Drive Me) Crazy and the auditions were halted when the power was cut during an electrical storm.
