The politically minded musical outfit Rage Against The Machine are known for their provocative lyrics, and strong statements within their songs. When U.S. Congressman, Paul Ryan declared his affections for the band, he was met with an outright rejection from Ratm's lead guitarist, Tom Morello, reports The Huffington Post.
"Paul Ryan's love of Rage Against the MAChine is amusing, because he is the embodiment of the machine that our music has been raging against for two decades" Morrello told Rolling Stone in a startling opinion-editorial. "Charles Manson loved The Beatles but didn't understand them. Governor Chris Christie loves Bruce Springsteen but doesn't understand him. And Paul Ryan is clueless about his favorite band, Rage Against the MAChine." It's incredibly rare that a rock star comes out to defy praise, but in this case, the situation is more complicated.
At the heart of Morellos rejection of Ryan's praise is, of course, a divergence in political opinion. He (Ryan) is a Republican and played a huge role in Congress's radical right-wing budget plan, which favours the top 1 per cent of earners in the U.S. This is exactly the kind of thing Ratm rally against in their music, so Morello's disdain for Ryan's praise is understandable. His reaction should come as a warning to any right-wing politicians that want to get on their good side; "We're nice, approachable people. We won't bite. Unless you're Mitt Romney!" writes Silversun Pickups frontman, BRIAN AUBERT.
