Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello is to perform in New York on Thursday (13th October 2011) as part of the Occupy Wall Street protests. Morello, winner of the Eleanor Roosevelt Human Rights Award, is the latest Hollywood figure to join the on-going protests against inequality and corporate greed, reports MTV News.
Morello follows the likes of Kanye West, Russell Simmons, Mark Ruffalo and Susan Sarandon who have joined the protests in recent days. The guitarist, who recently released album 'World Wide Rebel Songs', heads to Wall Street eleven years since his band filmed their infamous video to 'Sleep Now in the Fire' outside the New York Stock Exchange. The shoot, directed by Michael Moore, caused the doors of the financial hub to be closed and the band to be escorted by security. Many fans who turned up stormed the doors of the stock exchange, with singer Zack De La Rocha briefly entering through a side door. The current protest, now in its fourth week, has attracted hundreds of musicians including rapper Talib Kweli who performed an impromptu set on 6th October 2011.
On Friday (7th October 2011), Mayor Michael Bloomberg called on protestors to leave Zuccotti Park so the area could be cleaned by council staff.
