After having to receive surgery at an early age to have his right eye opened, Thom Yorke stated that he suffered from terrible self-consciousness.
Thom Yorke, the frontman for the band Radiohead, used to be very self-conscious of his unusual eye. The musician was born with his right eye fused shut, and had to have corrective surgery to open it, although it is still noticeable different. He admits that while he was a teenager, he disliked it, although he gained a huge confidence boost when a woman referred to is as his 'best feature'.
In a recent interview aimed at teenagers, Yorke stated that : ''When I was your age I was convinced that girls would think that was really not nice at all. I worked in this pub and this old woman - she was so funny - she used to come in all the time, and she was the first person who really said to me, 'It's the nicest thing about you.' ''
Yorke, who is now 44-years-old and married to Rachel Owen, suggested to teenagers that they should send a love letter to crushes if they were too shy to just speak to them. He told a young fan ''If you have a crush on him then you could ... if you're really, really, really, really shy, which is what I was when I was that age, also I was at a boy's school so it was impossible to meet girls anyway - how about just write him a note? If you can't bear to talk to him just write him a note.''
