Rachel Zoe has compared her debut fashion range to "giving birth".

The stylist - who welcomed son Skyler into the world four months ago - has worked with Hollywood stars from Cameron Diaz and Anne Hathaway, but says designing her own collection for online retailer Shopbop.com has been the pinnacle of her career so far.

She said: "Being a designer was the thing that I always said, 'I'm never going to do this, because I'm too scared to do this'.

"All of sudden during my presentation this season, I was like 'Oh my god, why am I doing this, I'm too scared to do this. Then it was like, it was almost like giving birth.

"When it was over, I was like, 'This is the most exciting, most challenging adventure. This is new, and this is fun.' "

Rachel also assures that every garment she has created is one which she would wear herself, and takes great pride in the quality of each design.

She added in a new video for Shopbop.com: "Everything I do, I have to be hands on, because I can't put my name on something that I'm not proud of and excited by and wouldn't wear myself.

"Seeing people wearing my clothes is going to be one of the most exciting things that's ever happened in my career.

"When I put on something from my collection, I see my name in it and I think, 'really?' It's beyond a dream come true."

The 39-year-old stylist and designer also has a weird ritual she employs when she checks each prototype.

"First prototype comes back and we have a fit model and I just stare at it. Then I'm like, the lapel is too wide... or the sleeve is boring me, I want it to have a cuff."
