HBO Confirms Rachel McAdams For 'True Detective' Season 2 (Finally)

Rachel McAdams Taylor Kitsch

HBO has confirmed that The Notebook actress Rachel McAdams and Black Box star Kelly Reilly have joined the season 2 cast of True Detective. The network also announced that Taylor Kitsch would appear too, though we already knew that.

True DetectiveWoody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey starred in the first season of True Detective

The eight-episode season is now in production in California and centres on three police officers and career criminal who must navigate a "web of conspiracy" in the aftermath of a murder. Colin Farrell takes the lead as Ray Velcoro, a detective whose allegiances are torn between his bosses in the corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him. That very mobster is played by Vince Vaughn, whose empire is in danger of crumbling after a legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of his business partner.

A Most Wanted Man Review

Excellent

Photographer-turned-filmmaker Anton Corbijn continues to show striking maturity with only his third movie (after Control and The American). Based on the John Le Carre novel, this thriller avoids cliches to become a brilliantly tense spy drama. It also offers Philip Seymour Hoffman another terrific posthumous performance, one of his best ever, as a quietly tenacious man who refuses to get caught up in the hype.

Set in Hamburg, the story centres on Gunther (Hoffman), the exhausted leader of a top-secret anti-terrorist unit who has gathered around him a loyal team (including Nina Hoss, Daniel Bruhl and Vicky Krieps). When they spot an unknown Chechen in town, they identify him as Issa (Grigoriy Dobrygin) but aren't sure what he's up to. Gunther thinks that following him is the best course of action, as he may lead them to much bigger fish. And they're further intrigued when he contacts a lawyer (Rachel McAdams) and a powerful banker (Willem Dafoe). But the local police and German security forces want to arrest Issa and interrogate him, even though this will stop Gunther from taking down a potentially much bigger operation, and even though it looks like Issa isn't a terrorist at all. Only a US embassy attache (Robin Wright) shares Gunther's long-game approach, but can they delay the gung-ho cops?

While the central plot slowly cranks up some powerful suspense, it's the dramatic and thematic elements of the film that truly get under the skin, mainly thanks to Hoffman's world-weary performance as a man whose eyes miss nothing. And he's beginning to wish he could just close them and pretend all of this doesn't exist. Every conversation he has sparks with jagged insinuation, driving the entire film deeper as an exploration of the dangers of self-proclaimed "good guys" with too much military power, especially when they're paranoid. This is augmented by several personal layers of plot-threads, including Issa's own compelling mystery, beautifully played by a gifted cast that's great at saying one thing and meaning another.

Actors That Just Can't Stand The Sight Of Each Other

Freddie Prinze Jr Kiefer Sutherland Bill Murray Lucy Liu Rachel McAdams Ryan Gosling America Ferrera Kenny Baker Anthony Daniels

Recently, Freddie Prinze Jr. revealed that he thought Kiefer Sutherland was ‘the most unprofessional’ person he’d ever worked with during his time on the hit show 24 in 2010. While promoting his new Disney XD series Star Wars Rebels at the San Diego Comic-Con, the 38-year-old explained that he took a hiatus from Hollywood as a result of his difficulty playing Cole Ortiz on 24.

It would seem, then, that actors are often a lot better at their profession than we give them credit for. While viewers watch scenes of love, tenderness, friendship and camaraderie, backstage, certain actors have all sorts of problems with each other.

The romantic film, which has just celebrated its ten year anniversary, was a global hit and launched the careers of Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling. Yet when presented with footage from her audition, McAdams couldn't help but cringe at her younger self acting in a emotional scene.

Ryan Gosling & Rachel McAdams 'Screamed' At Each Other Whilst Filming 'The Notebook'

Ryan Gosling Rachel McAdams Nick Cassavetes

Everyone may rave about Ryan Gosling's chivalrous portrayal of Noah Calhoun in The Notebook but he was hardly as gallant off screen with his co-star Rachel McAdams. The Notebook's director, Nick Cassavetes, spoke to VH1 about how Gosling and McAdams got on whilst filming the 2004 romantic drama. Apparently it wasn't well!

Rachel McAdams starred in The Notebook as Allie.

Gosling and McAdams dated for two years after they had met on the set of the Notebook but it wasn't always smooth sailing for the couple as Cassavetes described. Gosling reportedly demanded McAdams be removed with the set as he was struggling to work with her and even wanted a stand in actress to run lines with. Cassavetes tells of one incident in which the pair was not getting on well and Gosling asked him to remove McAdams from the set. He even requested another actress be brought in so he could practise his lines.

What Chemistry? Ryan Gosling And Rachel McAdams Fought During ‘The Notebook’ Filming

Rachel McAdams Ryan Gosling Nick Cassavetes

The Notebook has just turned ten, bringing the classic romance movie back into the headlines with a deluge of new interviews and trivia regarding the film. Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams, who play the couple central to the movie adaptation's story, have long been considered as one of the most powerful onscreen couples.

Adapted from the novel of the same name by Nicholas Sparks, the story charts two lovers who fall in love during the early 1940s. Local country boy Noah Calhoun and heiress Allie Hamilton embark on a romance despite a myriad of issues, including the implications of their different classes and disapproval of Allie's parents.

The chemistry between the pair was so intense that the actors dated in real-life after wrapping filming. However, director Nick Cassavetes has now revealed that the two didn't exactly hit it off during filming. "Maybe I'm not supposed to tell this story, but they were really not getting along one day on set. Really not," he told VH-1.

'Mean Girls' 10 Years On: Memes, Memories, And The Cult Of Mean

Tina Fey Lindsay Lohan Rachel McAdams Lacey Chabert Amanda Seyfried Lizzy Caplan Daniel Franzese

It's ten years since hit high school comedy Mean Girls was released. Yes, yes: we know it makes you feel old and all that jazz but what's more impressive than the simple passing of 3652.4 days is how a light-hearted look at the politics of high school life has become a phenomenon as popular and relevant now as it always was and will be forever.

'Mean Girls' Turns 10: Celebrating The Most Quotable Movie Ever Made.

To recap, Lindsay Lohan plays Cady Heron, a so-called "home-schooled jungle freak" who has spent her life sheltered from the regiment of mainstream school and its minefield of social rules. Cady is dropped in at the deep end when she catches the eye of the "plastics," a trio of vain and catty girls lead by Regina George (Rachel McAdams), the iron-fisted ruler of the school's in crowd.

Wow, Mean Girls Could Have Been A Very Different Movie. Casting Changes And Alternate Endings

Lindsay Lohan Daniel Franzese Rachel McAdams

Amazingly, its been a decade since the release of Mean Girls, the movie that has become a touch stone of pop culture for millennial teens. Written by Tina Fey and starring Lindsay Lohan, Mean Girls was a pretty much perfect high school comedy that still holds up 10 years later. But now we’re learning that it all could have been a lot different, as director Mike Waters and star Daniel Franzese have both given interviews detailing the changes Mean Girls went through before making it to the big screen.

daniel franzeseDaniel Franzese has dished some secrets on how Mean Girls could have been very different

Perhaps the most major revelation we've read is just how different the Mean Girls cast line up could have looked. Firstly Lindsay Lohan did not want to play the lead role of Cady, instead she had her eyes on what she thought was a juicier part, that of Regina George. Lindsay was in line to play Regina, but the studio just couldn’t find a convincing Cady and even Rachel McAdams auditioned for the part. Lohan was eventually told she would have to take the lead and McAdams, who had been told she was too old to play Cady was then cast as Regina George. Once everybody was in their correct roles it was clear the right decision had been made as McAdams seemed to make the young Lohan pretty nervous, thus giving the characters the correct on screen dynamic.

Still 'Mean Girls'? Tracking Down The Stars Of The 2004 Movie

Lindsay Lohan Rachel McAdams Lacey Chabert Amanda Seyfried

There’s been a whole lot of Mean Girls talk lately. First with news that there was potentially a Mean Girls movie in the works, although co-writer Tina Fey immediately dispelled those rumors. However, the Mean Girls musical is said to be coming along, slowly but surely, and it's got us reminiscing about the original and wondering where those Mean Girls are today?

lindsay lohan mean girls Lindsay is no longer fresh-faced Cady

It’s hard not to know where Lindsay Lohan is, or after “Lindsay’s List” was released, who she’s been there with. Lindsay played Cady Heron in the original movie and her career has been patchy since then, to say the least. While Lohan has appeared in a string of movies, including Georgia Rule, I Know Who Killed Me and Labor Pains, she hasn’t been nominated for any acting awards since 2008 and her personal life has been no more successful. Her cameo in 2 Broke Girls has been slammed by an audience member, who claims the troubled starlet couldn't remember any of her lines.   Lindsay has struggled with an array of legal issues and has been in and out of rehab for some years now. Her new self-titled reality show began on Opera’s network OWN on 9th March, only to be overshadowed by the list of her alleged conquests which surfaced soon after. The Lohan Saga continues.

Wonder Woman Movie: Who Do You Want For The Leotard And Lasso?

Wonder Woman Jaimie Alexander Gina Carano Amber Heard Alice Eve Katy Perry Rosario Dawson Jennifer Lawrence Rachel McAdams Juno Temple Rachel Bilson Hayden Panettiere Megan Fox Allison Williams Alexandra Daddario

Following Christopher Nolan's 'Dark Knight' trilogy and the recent Superman epic 'Man Of Steel', there seems to be one obvious direction to go in next for DC Comics with their film franchises: a Wonder Woman movie, of course. The Amazonian knockout was first portrayed successfully by Lynda Carter in the TV series between 1975 and 1979, and it hasn't yet been put to cinema neither as a solo project for the character nor as a Justice League of America set-up. There have been all sorts of rumours flying about recently with Jaimie Alexander talking a lot about the supposed upcoming Wonder Woman movie and we've got pretty excited discussing who might be considered for the role.

So, who do we think would do the Wonder Woman costume 'justice'?

Jaimie AlexanderJaimie Alexander: The 'Thor' actress has set tongues wagging as she gushed about the character in an interview with Forbes. 'I would love for DC to put Wonder Woman in one of their upcoming flicks, either in her own movie or Batman vs. Superman, or just something even to introduce her', she said. Batman vs. Superman, hmm? Does she know something we don't? On the suggestion that she could be the one to play her, she insisted, 'I'm appreciative to the people who ask my opinion of the character, and that's been pretty amazing.' Jaimie would be perfect for the role given her portrayal of Asgardian strong-woman Sif in the 'Thor' movies, and she even bears an interesting resemblance to Lucy Lawless as 90s TV hero Xena, Warrior Princess.

Rachel McAdams Joins Cameron Crowe Movie: Is It The New 'Jerry Maguire'?

Rachel McAdams Cameron Crowe Bradley Cooper Emma Stone

Rachel McAdams is in negotiations to join Cameron Crowe's still untitled movie, about a military contractor on a top-secret mission in Hawaii. Bradley Cooper plays the contractor who is teamed with an Air Force pilot, played by Emma Stone. According to Deadline, the film tonally falls somewhere between "Almost Famous" and "Jerry Maguire."

McAdams has signed on for an interesting year - she stars in Terrence Malik's new movie To The Wonder, which looks bizarre, and will feature alongside Noomi Rapace in Brian De Palma's B-movie 'Passion'. Oh, and there's also Anton Corbijn's thriller A Most Wanted Man, which should land on the festival circuit this year. One thing's for sure, McAdams has told her agent that she wants to make arthouse movies.

Cameron Crowe is working with producer Scott Rudin on the new film, which they are making with Sony Pictures. Crowe wrote the script himself and is looking to start principal photography at the beginning of October. The movie should be out midway through 2014, all ready for awards season. By the time it hits theaters, three years will have passed since Crowe's last directorial out, 'We Bought A Zoo'. That movie starred Matt Damon as a father who moves his young family to the countryside to renovate and re-open a struggling zoo, with the help of one Ms Scarlett Johansson. It garnered mixed reviews from critics.

Neil is the subject of a cautionary tale about the dangers of falling in love. He thinks he has met the woman of his dreams when the European Marina flies over to the States to be with him. However, as beautiful and as perfect as their love seems, Neil can't stop seeing Jane; an old flame from the town he grew up in; as a spark is ignited between them once more. He becomes doubtful of his love life, and struggles to make sense of it while Father Quintana is equally struggling with his faith, unable to see past the pain and suffering in the world. Neil must understand that love is not perfect, nor is it easy in execution; you are at constant risk of failure, of betrayal and ultimately heartbreak. But love in its many forms is nonetheless a beauty, even if it can be unpredictable.

Rachel McAdams Split From Michael Sheen; But Is It Just Temporary?

Rachel McAdams Michael Sheen

It seems to be the season of the celebrity split, with first news that Michelle Williams and Jason Segel have gone their separate ways, and now Rachel McAdams and Michael Sheen also splitting up.

It’s believed that the constant travel has caused the two to break up, though in a previous interview with Stella Magazine she’d said: "Michael and I never spend more than three weeks apart - we rack up a lot of air miles - but you have to be quite adaptable in this business whether you are in a relationship or not.” In fact, it seems quite a shame that this one has gone down the plughole, with the pair seemingly pretty happy. In the same interview, McAdams had said "Michael and I didn't get together while we were filming Midnight in Paris, which I feel strongly about not doing when I'm working. We became quite good friends, which I think is a great way to start. I felt very blessed to have made a Woody Allen film in Paris together."

To The Wonder Review

Very Good

Frankly, a bad Terrence Malick film is better than 90 percent of movies released in cinemas: but if you thought The Tree of Life was indulgent and overly kaleidoscopic, you should avoid this like the plague. Because this film is even looser and more internalised, taking an impressionistic approach to plot and characters that gives us very few specifics. It also leaves the cast to play mere hints of people who are having crises of faith and love.

After a lushly romantic trip to Paris and Mont Saint-Michel, Neil (Affleck) brings his French girlfriend Marina (Kurylenko) and her 10-year-old daughter Tatiana (Chiline) home to Oklahoma to live. The geography and culture are a shock to both of them, but Marina tells Neil, "If you love me, I'm OK here." So they begin to bond as a family, and Marina turns to local Catholic priest Quintana (Bardem) for support. But he's having a crisis of faith, and she's wondering if she's made a terrible mistake. So when her visa expires, she takes Tatiana and returns to France. In confusion, Neil then turns to his old flame Jane (McAdams). But as their rekindled romance begins to get serious, she realises that he's still in love with Marina.

Malick tells this story with snippets of ideas and feelings. Emmanuel Lubezki's sumptuous cinematography finds raw beauty everywhere, including in Malick's trademark sun-dappled leaves, waving wheat fields and rippling water. But there's also raw beauty in the actors' faces, and we understand their thoughts through breathy voiceovers that offer philosophical musings and biblical texts. As a result, only Marina emerges as a properly defined character with passion and yearnings; everyone else is sketchy and vague. Even Affleck and Bardem, who have strong on-screen presence, never quite register here.

Could Anna Kendrick Play Princess Leia In Star Wars Episode 7?

Anna Kendrick Mila Kunis Star Wars Rachel McAdams

The Jedis have spoken, and it's Anna Kendrick who they want as Princess Leia in Star Wars Episode 7, the first of the movies in the new Disney franchise. The film should hit theaters in 2015 and all eyes are turning to the forthcoming casting process to see who will snag the major roles.

It's likely that all the parts will be up for grabs, with Disney looking to provide a new take on the franchise - a new era. In a poll run by E! Online, fans weighed in on who they'd like to see take up the role of Princess Leia, the twin sister of Luke Skywalker. Mila Kunis, Anne Hathaway, Rachel McAdams and The Hunger Games actress Jennifer Lawrence all scored admirably, though there was one overall winner: Anna Kendrick. We're guessing it may have something to do with Kendrick's likeness to previous Leia actress Carrie Fisher. Oscar nominated Kendrick rose to prominence in the Twilight films, though won acclaim for her turns in the George Clooney-starring Up In The Air and comedy 50/50, with Seth Rogen. Her schedule looks pretty clear for the next couple of years, though she's set to begin work on comedy-drama Drinking Buddies, set for a 2013 release.

A weekend poll on Broadway.com saw Aaron Tveit the clear choice to play Luke Skywalker in the new movies. The Ghost Town actor took a stonking 25% of the vote.

The Vow Review

OK
Inspired by a true story, this film is watchable mainly because of the extraordinary events, which are genuinely involving and moving. Although typically, Hollywood has ramped up the emotions while avoiding subtlety at all costs.

Goofy recording engineer Leo (Tatum) and adorable artist Paige (McAdams) had a cute romance, quirky wedding and four happy years together before a car crash changed everything. Leo only has minor injuries, but Paige has lost some five years of memories. Crucially, she has no idea who Leo is. And she doesn't remember turning her back on her law course, smirking fiance (Speedman) and wealthy parents (Lange and Neill). They're all she remembers now, so Leo tries to remind her of who she became after she left them behind. If they'll let him.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows Review

Good

Ritchie, Downey and Law are back with another manic romp that feels more like a Victorian James Bond adventure than anything about the famed Conan Doyle characters. While it has the same comical energy, it's not quite as fun as the first go-round.

Brilliant Cambridge professor Moriarty (Harris) is up to no good, taking on Holmes (Downey) by messing with those around him, including his girlfriend-nemesis Irene (McAdams) and his partner Watson (Law), who plans to retire after his upcoming wedding to Mary (Reilly). But nothing goes as planned, and Holmes and Watson are propelled into a vicious game of intrigue that sends them to Paris where they team up with a sexy gypsy (Rapace). They also get help from Holmes' brother Mycroft (Fry) as they head to a climactic showdown in Switzerland.

Who needs logic when the action is this wildly exhilarating? And much of it is drastically slowed-down so Ritchie can show us Holmes' powers of deduction as well as whizzing bullets, explosions and other cool-looking things. The dialog is the same mix of faux intelligent banter and shameless innuendo, which gives the actors something to play with, especially as Downey and Law amusingly move beyond bromance into Brokeback territory.

But we do need some logic. This plot is so messy that it never engages us. And as it builds to a climax in a crazy cliff-perched Alpine castle, we begin to lose interest. Even with the bigger action, zingy dialog and colourful characters, this film barely works up any steam. Whenever Holmes isn't being mischievous, Downey actually looks bored. And Rapace is so sidelined that it's difficult to understand why she's here at all; the filmmakers never give her anything interesting to do.

It's a shame the screenwriters never push the characters further. But at least Ritchie keeps things moving briskly, filling the screen with comical nuttiness and big-gun mayhem. Even if Moriarty makes no sense (would someone this intelligent resort to such a ridiculous plan to make his fortune?), Harris adds heft in the role, including some jagged chemistry with Downey. Let's just hope that the requisite third film lets us in on the joke.

Leo sings along, to Paige's amusement and as they stop their car to kiss, an oncoming truck crashes into the back of them. The resulting accident puts Paige in a coma for several months and when she wakes up, she can't remember her husband at all.

Midnight In Paris Review

Excellent
After a run of loose, uneven films, Allen hits the right notes in this funny, astute comedy about artistic creation and personal dreams. And Wilson turns out to be one of the best on-screen Allen surrogates in years.

Blocked writer Gil (Wilson) is visiting Paris with his wife Inez (McAdams) and her high-achieving parents (Fuller and Kennedy). When they run into Inez's know-it-all ex (Sheen), Gil starts having second thoughts about everything. He also begins to wish he'd lived in Paris in the artistic heyday of the 1920s, and is stunned one night to find himself in some kind of magical time-warp, rubbing shoulders with F Scott Fitzgerald (Hiddleston), Gertrude Stein (Bates) and Ernest Hemmingway (Stoll). He also begins to fall for Adriana (Cotillard), a muse for Picasso and Modigliani.
