A cousin of Britain's Queen Elizabeth II has been forced to pull out of celebrations to mark the Diamond Jubilee after breaking her hip.
A string of events are being held across the U.K. in the coming weeks in recognition of the monarch's 60-year reign, but the Queen's close friend and cousin, Margaret Rhodes, will not be part of the festivities.
Rhodes, 87, fell and broke her hip while on holiday in Spain, and she remains in hospital in the country as she recovers from an operation on Sunday (20May12), according to Britain's Daily Mail.
A source tells the publication, "She is very robust and bearing up remarkably well. Arrangements have been made to bring her home by air but at any age this is a serious accident."
A spokesperson for Buckingham Palace says, "We wish her well."
