Biography

The Pussycat Dolls (formed 1995) The Pussycat Dolls originally started out as a burlesque troupe but was later re-cast as a pop group. In this new guise, the group has enjoyed large-scale success across the globe.

Formation: In 1995, the Pussycat Dolls made their first public performance. At this time, they were a modern burlesque troupe, formed by the choreographer Robin Antin, along with her friend Christina Applegate. They performed a number of 1950s and '60s pop songs, dressed in vintage-style pin-up costumes and lingerie. Between 1995 and 2001, the group maintained a residency at The Viper Room, the Los Angeles club formerly owned by Johnny Depp (and also the location of River Phoenix's death).

In 1999, the group appeared in a Playboy picture feature. Moving to The Roxy, the group became infamous around the world and were the subject of MTV specials, VH1 programmes, as well as films and advertising campaigns. They appeared in the promotional video for Pink's song 'Trouble', as well as featuring in Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle.

In 2002, the group was featured in a Maxim photo shoot. Carmen Electra (the group's main performer for many shows) and Christina Aguilera were featured in the shoot. The public interest that followed the publication of the shoot led record producers Jimmy Iovine and Ron fair to become involved with them. The group was re-cast as a pop group and were signed to Interscope Records, owned by Jimmy Iovine. The only original group members left after the re-cast were Kasey Campbell, Ashley Roberts, Cyia Batten, Carmit Bachar, Kimberley Wyatt and Jessica Sutta. Not all of these members remained in the group. Carmen Electra went on to form a new burlesque troupe, called The Bombshell Babies which featured ex-Pussycat Dolls, Staci Flood, Kasey Campbell and Nadine Ellis.

Musical Career: In 2003, with a line-up of Nicole Scherzinger, Carmit Bachar, Kimberley Wyatt, Ashley Roberts, Melody Thornton, Kaya Jones and Jessica Sutta, the band was launched as a pop act, with PCD branded costumes, hit producers working for them and guest rappers on board. In September 2005, their debut album, PCD was released. 'Don't Cha' was the lead single and was an international hit. The tracks 'Stickwitu', 'Beep' (featuring will.i.am of The Black Eyed Peas) and 'Buttons' (featuring Snoop Dogg) were also released as singles. The last single from the album, 'Wait A Minute' was produced by Timbaland.

In March 2008, Carmit Bachar left The Pussycat Dolls. Her vocals are now shared by Kimberley Wyatt and Ashley Roberts.

In May 2008, the band released 'When I Grow Up', the debut single from their second album. They first performed the song live on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

The second album was entitled Doll Domination and was produced by Timbaland, Dr Dre, New Kids On The Block and Taio Cruz, amongst others. The second single from the album was 'I Hate This Part'.

In 2008, The Pussycat Dolls were confirmed as one of the acts booked for the Royal Variety Performance 2008, which is a major British cultural event, attended by members of the Royal family.

Side Projects: Nicole Sherzinger has released four solo singles. 'Baby Love' was particularly popular in Europe and Brazil. Her solo album Her Name Is Nicole is waiting for a release date.

Melody Thornton appeared on 'Go Too Far' by the rapper Jibbs.

Ashley Roberts appeared in the film Make It Happen, in 2008.

Jessica Sutta was featured in a successful dance track by Paul Van Dyk.

The Pussycat Dolls have been the subject of two reality TV shows. The first, Pussycat Dolls Present: The Search for the Next Doll was unsuccessful in finding a new member for the band. The second series, Pussycat Dolls Present: Girlicious auditioned women in order to form a new group, named Girlicious.

The band have released a line of Pussycat Dolls make up under Estée Lauder's Stila brand. Antin also worked alongside LaSenza to release a line of Pussycat Dolls-style lingerie called 'Shhh. by Robin Antin'.

Nicole Scherzinger Pussycat Dolls

Super girl group - the Pussycat Dolls - are suing the parent company of the Daily Mail over an article published which claims the group was used as a ‘prostitution ring’ - citing quotes from a former member. Kaya Jones claimed some members of the band - which were made up of many different women including solo artist and X Factor judge Nicole Scherzinger - were ‘passed around’ for sex and by music industry executives.

Pussycat Dolls Deny Kaya Jones' 'Prostitution Ring' Claims

Pussycat Dolls Kaya Jones

The Pussycat Dolls have issued a joint statement responding to former member Kaya Jones’ sensational allegations that the group was like a “prostitution ring”.

33 year old Jones was a member of the band from 2003 to 2005, quitting just before the group found international fame with breakthrough hit ‘Don’t Cha’.

In the light of the explosive claims made against Harvey Weinstein over sexual harassment and abuse this week, Jones took to Twitter last Friday (October 13th) to make a series of allegations about life in the Pussycat Dolls. “We are all abused,” she tweeted, claiming the group were made to “sleep with whoever they say.”

American pop star Nicole Scherzinger and her long-term boyfriend Lewis Hamilton have split for good, reports suggest.

Sources close to the now-broken coupling confirmed the split to Us Weekly, and indicated that the split was down to British Formula One driver Hamilton’s refusal to marry the former Pussycat Dolls singer, who is six years his senior.

Kesha Gwen Stefani Lamb of God Beyonce Knowles Pussycat Dolls

US singer Kesha, AKA Ke$ha, has been told she will not be welcome to perform in Malaysia, leading to her scheduled Saturday show in Kuala Lumpur cancelled. The ban results from the Malaysian authority's fears that Kesha's show, which is known for being raunchy, will offend "religious and cultural sensitivities," according to BBC News.

The future of Nicole Scherzinger as a judge and mentor on The X Factor looks in doubt after reports circulated that she is ready to begin focusing on her music career again. Scherzinger's agent was probably delighted to tie up a guest judging deal with the ITV singing show in 2010 though she's since outgrown the show and is now considered the most popular member of the panel.

Nicole Scherzinger Lewis Hamilton Pussycat Dolls

Nicole Scherzinger's split from Formula 1 ace Lewis Hamilton has left the former Pussycat Dolls singer "heartbroken" and "completely devastated," though it seems the decision to end their five year relationship was mutual. The couple are believed to have gone their separate ways after it became apparent their busy working schedules left little time for each other.

But hopefully in the near future. Maybe before we get to six years," he said.

Nicole Scherzinger In Leathers? Pussycat Doll Dominates James Arthur’s Homecoming

Nicole Scherzinger James Arthur Pussycat Dolls

We’re not entirely sure why James Arthur and Nicole Scherzinger rolled into Middlesborough on the back of two Harley Davidsons today (December 4, 2012). But they did. And Nicole made sure that she looked every bit the superstar, just in case James was under any illusion that he might be the star of the show at his emotional little homecoming trip.

That’s right folks, it’s that time on X Factor, when the camera crews decamp to whichever unremarkable British town the finalists happen to hail from, feed a group of schoolchildren a barrel-load of E numbers and force them to act excited about their returning alumni and film their family members quivering with tears (presumably because they know that their intolerable offspring will be returning to the unremarkable British town with an unmanageable ego that will take years to deflate when they lose to Christopher Maloney in the final).

The main point of this trip to Middlesborough, though, isn’t just to catch up with an over-dramatised account of James’ life in the land of the parmo, but to see what Nicole Scherzinger looks like in biking leathers. The answer to that, of course, is that she looks pretty hot. There she was, all trussed up in knee high boots, tight black trousers, dark shades, leather gloves and a leather biker jacket, whilst James looked visibly frozen, forced to keep his hands in his pockets to keep them warm. We guess the wardrobe budget for the day couldn’t quite stretch to two pairs of gloves, then.

Nicole Scherzinger Faces Pussycat Dolls Backlash Over ‘95%’ Remarks

Nicole Scherzinger Pussycat Dolls Kaya Jones

Yeah, we thought this might happen. No sooner had Nicole Scherzinger declared she sang "95%" of the Pussycat Dolls' material, than her former band-mates were slamming her as a limelight hogging good-for-nothing!

As we reported last week, Nicole - now a judge on The X Factor UK - claimed she sang the majority of the girl group's material, letting the rest of the band listen and learn the tracks once they were complete. However, former band-mate Kaya Jones is the first of the hugely successful performers to deny the story, telling TMZ.com, "there was a lot more going on behind the scenes," and adding, "Nicole was always someone who wanted to be in the spotlight and would do pretty much anything to get it.To call the other girls in the Pussycat Dolls "window dressings" is a bit farfetched ... every girl in the group was talented." Though nobody was under any illusions that vocal duties were dished out evenly amongst the group, the extent of Nicole's apparent role was certainly eyebrow raising. Scherzinger had revealed, "I love those girls. They're like my sisters. But people don't even know the whole story. They have no idea. I was in the centre because I was singing." The girls producer Ron Fair has backed up Nicole's version of events - according to the Daily Mail - though Kaya refutes the remarks.

As of 2011, the group had sold 15 million albums and 37 million singles worldwide, making them one of the best-selling girl groups of all time.

Nicole Scherzinger: I Recorded Pussycat Dolls Albums, The Girls Heard Them Afterwards

Nicole Scherzinger Pussycat Dolls

Nicole Scherzinger has revealed a staggering secret about the production of The Pussycat Dolls' music and why she always appeared in the center during group photo sessions.

In an exclusive video on the Us Weekly website from the upcoming VH1 show 'Behind the Music', Nicole reveals that she was the only one who actually sang in the band and that the other Pussycat Dolls were the last to even hear the final studio efforts. "I love those girls, they're like my sisters, but people don't even know the story", she began. "They have no idea. I was in the centre because I was singing. I was the one singing." The band has previously been slated for placing too much emphasis on Nicole, with Margeaux Watson of Entertainment Weekly calling them 'a brand, not a band', and now we know why.

"I'll never forget I finished the album 'PCD' and [record producer] Ron [Fair] and I brought the girls into the studio and we played it for them, and it was the first time they'd ever heard the music", she confessed. "Do you understand what I'm saying? We played the album for the Pussycat Dolls. It was the first time they'd ever heard the songs. I probably did 95% of the album on my own."

Purely Platonic? Nicole Scherzinger Denies Kissing Chris Brown In Hollywood Club

Nicole Scherzinger Chris Brown Pussycat Dolls Rihanna

Nicole Scherzinger insists she did not kiss Chris Brown in a Hollywood nightclub. Some grainy photos of the pair have made their way online and Chris certainly seems to have Nicole in an uncompromising position – but you can’t say for certain from the photographs, whether the two of them were smooching or not. The X Factor judge Nicole has insisted that she was just chatting to Chris Brown at Hollywood’s Supperclub and that they’d had to get close so that they could hear each other talk.

The former singer for the Pussycat Dolls is adamant that her relationship with Brown is purely platonic. She and Chris were both in attendance at the club as part of a “star-studded line-up hosting the Black Pyramid Party,” on Tuesday night (September 25, 2012) according to the Press Association. Her rep told the press “There is absolutely no truth to the ridiculous story regarding Nicole and Chris Brown. The photos that have surfaced are old friends who were trying to talk at a very loud club. I guarantee there will be no photos of them kissing.”

This will be a relief to Rihanna of course, who is thought to be rekindling her romance with the R&B singer. On Monday, she even tweeted a message of support to him as he appeared in court to answer the case of a failed drug test which he was asked to take as part of his probation terms. The probation, ironically, relates to his 2009 assault on Rihanna, for which he was convicted.
