Pussy Riot stars Maria Alyokhina and Nadia Tolokonnikova have reportedly been attacked at a MCDonald's restaurant in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia.

According to The Guardian, the two punk activists had rubbish and paint poured over them by a group of men, who took offence at their anti-Russian protests.

Alyokhina and Tolokonnikova were jailed in 2012 after they were found guilty of hooliganism for staging a protest at a church in Moscow, and since their release in December (13), they have visited America, where they were toasted at an Amnesty International concert and on Tv shows.

Following Thursday's (06Mar14) attack, Alyokhina claimed she suffered head injuries.

The punk activists have been involved in a host of incidents of late - they were detained in Sochi, where they were part of a protest at the Winter Olympics, and they were attacked with whips by Cossack militia.
