Legendary musician Prince will perform 21 concerts in London later this year (07) - before taking time off to study the Bible. The Purple Rain star will kick-off his London residency on 1 August with seven nights at the 20,000 capacity O2 Arena, formerly known as the Millennium Dome. The remaining 14 gigs will take place at various venues around the British capital. Tickets for the concerts, some of which will be secret at small venues, will cost GBP31.21, a reference to the title of Prince's last album 3121. Speaking at a press conference in the city earlier today (08May07), Prince said, "Last time I was here, a lot of people didn't get to see me, so we're trying to make it affordable for everybody. "We play so many different styles of music, it's really hard to get a full dose of what we do unless you come to several shows. I also have a wide fan base that comes to multiple shows all the time." Outside Organisation, the PR company arranging the residency, claimed Prince will be performing his greatest hits "for the very last time", although the star didn't confirm this. Prince also promised fans coming to multiple shows will be treated to different set lists from night-to-night. He said, "We play so many different styles of music, it's really hard to get a full dose of what we do unless you come to several shows. I also have a wide fan base that comes to multiple shows all the time."
