Animal rights activists have slammed Prince William's girlfriend Kate Middleton after she was photographed wearing what looks like a mink fur hat. The 23-year-old was snapped wrapping up warm at the Cheltenham horse racing festival in England last week (begs13MAR06). But People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) are outraged - if the hat is made from fur. A spokesperson says, "Maybe Kate is trying to fit in with what she perceives to be her new family while wearing a dead animal on her head. "After all, the palace guards still wear real bearskins and the Queen is happy to wring the necks of pheasants. And her boyfriend was a fan of fox hunting and reportedly speared to death a tiny deer while on holiday in Kenya. "It is appalling that the very people who are supposed to represent the country go against what is very clearly public opinion." The royal family refused to comment, insisting Middleton is not yet a member of the family.
