British royal Prince William swapped the comfort of his palace home for the freezing streets of London last week (begs14Dec09) - sleeping rough for charity.
The 27 year old, son of the late Diana, Princess of Wales and her ex-husband Prince Charles, teamed up with homeless charity Centrepoint - which helps get vulnerable youngsters off the street - to spend a night outdoors.
The prince braved the wintry weather to bunk down in an alleyway in the British capital on Tuesday last week (15Dec09), with just a piece of cardboard and a sleeping bag, to raise awareness of the organisation.
Prince William, who is patron of the charity, was accompanied by his armed personal protection officer, his private secretary, who is a former solider, and the chief executive of Centrepoint.
He says in a statement, "I cannot, after one night, even begin to imagine what it must be like to sleep rough on London's streets night after night. I hope that by deepening my understanding of the issue, I can help do my bit to help the most vulnerable on our streets."
