Rock chick AVRIL LAVIGNE snubbed British royal Prince Charles at yesterday's (11JUL04) Party In The Park event in London - by refusing to take her seat next to him.

The COMPLICATED singer was due to join R+B babe Jamelia by sitting next to the heir to the throne while the festivities continued, but called off the arrangement at the last minute to fly home.

Organisers were enraged by Avril's decision and had to arrange British POP IDOL winner Will Young to take her place.

A source tells British newspaper The Sun, "Avril wasn't keen on the idea.

"She wanted to get away as soon as she completed her set. Hasty arrangements were made for Will Young to take her place.

"The official line is that Avril had a plane to catch. But the truth is she is cripplingly shy and hates publicity stunts."
