Truck Festival 2013 Announcement - The Subways, Thomas Truax Plus Many More.

We've had the first warm weekend of the year and it feels like summer is finally on its way; it's not long until the sixteenth installment of the world-famous Truck Festival in Oxfordshire! We are pleased to announce that The Subways will be joining the likes of The Horrors, Spiritualized and Ash on the bill for the event, which takes place on July 19th and 20th at Hill Farm, Steventon, near Abingdon

After last year's sold out return, Early Bird tickets for Truck Festival 2013 have already sold out. General sale tickets are now available priced o74 from the website at www.truckfestival.com and in person from Truck Store, 101 Cowley Road, Oxford.

In 2005, Welwyn Garden City three-piece The Subways crashed onto the UK rock scene with their cult debut album 'Young For Eternity' and the single 'Rock & Roll Queen'; a series of high-profile appearances cemented their reputation as festival favourites. Although in 2007 the band's existence was in doubt after frontman Billy Lunn was forced to undergo surgery to cure nodules on his vocal chords, Lunn eventually made a full recovery and The Subways made their 2nd album 'All Or Nothing' with Nirvana producer Butch Vig. 2011 saw the release of a third album, 'Money and Celebrity', and The Subways have been back touring the world since then; next stop is Truck Festival's main stage! As Billy says, "the greatest drug in the world is seeing people screaming the words to songs you've written, dancing to the drums, clapping to your rhythms and screaming when you ask them to!"

The organisers are also pleased to announce the first few acts for two new stages at Truck. The "Veterans and Virgins" tent will feature a day each of acts new to Truck and those who have appeared many times back in the day; the new ones will be chosen by BBC Introducing in Oxford in the next few weeks*, but returning long-time Truck veterans will include the weird and wonderful Fonda 500, that great inventor of bespoke instruments Thomas Truax, socially baffled virtuoso pianist Luke Smith, a specially-reformed Edible Five Foot Smiths and Le Emu Tavern (containing Ste from 90s Oxford electro-pop favourites The Holy Roman Empire)! Also in there will be ESP/Brakes man Alex White's project Interlocutor and The Holy Orders, our 3rd returning band from that hotbed of deranged pop music, Hull.

The second new stage is the specially-constructed Great Western Whiskey Saloon & Blues Kitchen, in association with Clubhouse Records; acts confirmed include the harmonious Society, steel-guitar-toting Redlands Palomino Co, Oxford's own The Epstein, The Dreaming Spires, Huck and The Yarns, songwriting prodigy Stevie Ray Latham, and Clubhouse recording artistes Case Hardin, Troubadour Rose and Paul McLure. Rest assured the Saloon will contain some great music and, of course, the opportunity to sip some whiskey.

These acts join the incredible truckload of other acts already announced: Dan Le Sac Vs Scroobius Pip, Dry the River, Gaz Coombes, Rolo Tomassi, We Are The Ocean, The Joy Formidable, Frankie & The Heartstrings, Bo Ningen, Ady Suleiman, Arcane Roots, Axes, Brother and Bones, Crash of Rhinos, Patrick Wolf, Ultrasound, Foy Vance, Public Service Broadcasting, Alessi's Ark, Royal Republic, Wild Swim, Milo Greene, Wounds, Fight Like Apes, Gunning for Tamar, Lewis Watson, Max Raptor, And So I Watch You From Afar, Planes, Salvation Bill, Stagecoach, Tall Ships, The Bots, The Computers, Treetop Flyers, The History of Apple Pie, Kimberly Anne, Pylo, Harbour, The Family Rain, The Physics House Band, The Social Club.

It's going to be #aMonsterSummer!

*New bands update: Truck is proud to have provided a platform for many new and local artists, who have made their way up the bill and on to bigger things; they team are busy listening to every single one of the 1000+ artists who have submitted to play, and will soon publish a shortlist of approximately 100 acts once they have finished listening through all the entries, which will be whittled down to 20 chosen acts by our panel. It's a tough job, due of the high standard of musicians applying!
