The Doctor's Orders 5th Birthday @ Fabric: Tim Westwood & More
5 years in clubland is a century in ordinary time given how quickly trends and music seem to change. For any club night to be running 5 years after it's launch is one thing, but for it to be at the very peak of it appeal, attracting bigger crowds and better guests than ever, is nothing short of phenomenal.
The Doctor's Orders is that phenomenon; creating a definite party atmosphere purely with the finest hip hop sounds around meant that at its launch The Doctor's Order was - and still remains today - a wholly unique event. Despite many pretenders rearing their heads since the launch party at Herbal back in July 2005, a non-stop barrage of quality events throughout London - with the Doctor subsequently branching out his practise across the length of the UK - has seen The Doctor's Orders secure the title of "the kings of the capital's hip hop scene" (Time Out); and with line ups like the one celebrating 5 years of great parties, it's evident that there will be no one else coming close to that title for a while yet.
As the driving force behind all these events and more, Spin Doctor - often described as one of the hardest working men in hip hop - is tirelessly obsessed with providing the musical highlights of the night, building everything himself, from the line up to the street level buzz and beyond. Never one to count his chickens, he's understandably over the moon to see The Doctor's Orders parties still riding high after half a decade.
"I am so pleased to still be here doing what I love doing," he tells us from behind a hard to stifle smile; "and now at fabric, the best venue in London, with what I genuinely believe to be the strongest line up we have booked to date. I have met so many great people and worked with some truly inspirational artists so I consider myself truly blessed; it's not all been plain sailing but I have enjoyed it and want to thank everyone for their continued support!"
For this very special landmark occasion Spin Doctor has put together a suitably gargantuan line up. Headlining the night is Tim Westwood - a man who has done as much as anyone to popularise hip hop music in the UK - who'll be spinning an exclusive 'Golden Age' set of late 80's to mid 90's classics especially for The Doctor's Orders. Having cut his teeth on pirate radio Tim has been holding down the airwaves since the mid 80's, championing all styles of hip hop to a huge audience. Whilst reaching a younger crowd these days through his current drive time BBC 1xtra radio show; many of his older shows on stations like KISS, LWR and Capital FM are still held in high regard by those that taped them religiously, eager to hear which hip hop A-listers would pop in the studio and to catch the hottest and freshest music first. Despite a wealth of compilations and radio awards to his name it's in the club that the big dawg really comes to life, so make sure you are there to witness Westwood at his wildest.
Returning to London for the first time since his appearance at the 4th Birthday at Herbal is Detroit's own Guilty Simpson. He's been super busy since his last trip over the pond and will be returning to perform tracks off his incredible new Madlib produced, Stones Throw released album, 'OJ Simpson;' along with loads of his brilliant tracks that are already a staple favourite of The Doctor's Orders regulars.
Always being one to represent their home turf to the fullest, The Doctor's Orders have been lucky enough to host sets from a who's who of the UK's Hip-Hop talent over the years; yet the one crew who have individually represented more than any other has been one of the country's most multi talented DJ crews, The Extended Playerz. Mr Thing has played at more events for The Doctor's Orders than anyone other than Spin Doctor; Shortee Blitz and DJ MK are residents at The Doctor's Orders South London home, On The Real @ Plan B; and Harry Love has been heard rocking several of The Doctor's Orders parties including those in Brighton and Plymouth, over the last 3 months alone. On the night three of the crew are going in on 6 turntables to show just why the have such an esteemed place in the heart of the UK's best hip hop party.
Making sure that everyone rocks all night through is the Foreign Beggars' DJ Nonames who, as part of one of the most forward thinking crews this country has ever produced, continues to keep his finger on the pulse of the freshest music and bass heavy dynatmite and Chris P Cuts - a fast rising star of the London scene whose been steadily rocking free parties and airwaves as much as he has The Doctors Orders.
