T In The Park Wins 'International Festival Of The Year' Ahead Of 20th Year Celebrations
T in the Park has been crowned International Festival of the Year at the coveted Pollstar Awards held at Club Nokia in Los Angeles.
T in the Park faced stiff competition from Bluesfest (Australia), Primavera Sound (Spain), Sweden Rock Festival (Sweden), Tomorrowland (Belgium) and V Festivals (UK).
Recognising its status as one of the best events in the world, this award - voted for by Pollstar readers - comes ahead of T in the Park's 20th year, to be celebrated this July (12-14). The festival is the only in the UK to have operated for 20 consecutive years, winning a plethora of awards over that time including, most recently; Festival of the Year (Music Week Awards 2011), Best Line Up (UK Festival Awards 2008) and Festival Director Geoff Ellis was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010 (UK Festival Awards). The event has also been recognised for its green efforts having been given the Greener Festival Award - AGreenerFestival.com in 2012, 2009 and 2008 along with the Green'n'Clean Award at the Yourope (European Festival Association) Awards 2008.
T in the Park is a firm favourite of fans with early bird tickets having quickly sold out. More acts will be announced by festival organisers DF Concerts and founding partner Tennent's Lager next week, joining headliners Mumford and Sons, Rihanna and The Killers as well as Emeli Sand', The Script, Two Door Cinema Club, alt-J, Paloma Faith, Jake Bugg, Of Monsters and Men and Azealia Banks.
Says Festival Director, Geoff Ellis "We were over the moon to have been nominated for such a prestigious award, so to win is amazing. This award is testament to the entire team who work tirelessly year-round on T in the Park. We've grown from a small festival for 17,000 people to 85,000 music fans a day. We're really proud of what we have created - as well as bringing some of the biggest names worldwide to Scotland, we work hard to enhance the overall fan experience year on year. Here's to the next 20 years".
George Kyle, Head of Sponsorship at T in the Park founding partner Tennent's Lager, said: "As founding partner of the festival, we are exceptionally proud to have put the T in T in the Park since 1994. We are delighted to hear that T in the Park has won International Festival of the Year at the Pollstar Awards - it's a great honour for the festival and the perfect start to the 20th year celebrations."
