Sway Clarke II is a vocalist and songwriter who will be releasing his debut single 'Secret Garden' on August 24th on his imprint Liars And Thieves, as part of Island Records
Originally surfacing online as a demo, 'Secret Garden' is a playful and instantly catchy celebration of the color spectrum that generated much excitement across the blogosphere and was picked up unprompted by Zane Lowe as his 'Next Hype'.
Newly mixed and mastered, the official release of 'Secret Garden' brings forth charmingly askew R&B pop that simultaneously echoes the contemporary soul of Miguel, lyrical flair of Frank Ocean and exuberant melodic piano-pop of classic 70's Elton John. As an opening statement, it's as fully formed they come, and earmarks Sway as an artist to keep a watchful eye on this year. Alongside the original version, some very special edits of the track and guest features to be announced will follow soon.
Born in Toronto as one of 8 children to a Cuban family, Sway relocated to Berlin in 2010 to focus on work as a full time songwriter. The newfound surroundings and attached ambiguous sentiments of liberation and loneliness served as the inspiration for his introductory track and ode to self-sufficiency 'I Don't Need Much', a song of widescreen, late-night soul and r&b.
The track instantly turned heads online and caught the attention of publications such as the NME and Fader, the latter decreeing it "a cross betweenFrank Ocean and Lorde, adding, "Bless this man on his journey to fame". Subsequently, Sway was drafted by HAIM as main support for the European leg of their tour.
An opportunity to catch an early glimpse of Sway's idiosyncratic charm and compelling live performance in action and listen to further tracks comesWednesday, July 9th when he plays a debut UK show at Notting Hill Arts Club.
