Nitin Sawhney has announced that he will play London's prestigious Royal Albert Hall on the 21st September this year. Nitin Sawhney tickets go on-sale 9am on Friday 28th February
Forthcoming album, Dystopian Dream sees Nitin Sawhney returning to the darker, emotive sounds of his earlier albums, where he cultivated a unique identity that transcended London's fickle music scene. As a producer and polymath steeped in Eastern and Western classical music, flamenco, trip hop, drum n bass and dubstep, Sawhney has continued to innovate, experiment and defy convention across the world.
Dystopian Dream, a major sonic shift for Sawhney, was born of frustration at the cul de sac of choice presented by both his own life, following a series of personal losses, and the global turmoil of the last few years... Watching the lame political response to riots and unrest from London to New York amidst brewing tensions the world over, Sawhney has responded from an intimate yet epic place with a powerful and sonorous melting pot of thoughts, feelings and personal catharsis.
Dystopian Dream is the elusive light at the end of an infinite tunnel.
Nitin Sawhney has had a career that spans decades of solo albums (10), film scoring (over 50), video game soundtracks (Ninja Theory),work for dance (notably the legendary Akram Khan), theatre (Complicite), commissions for leading orchestras (The London Symphony Orchestra and others in Australia, America, Canada, Holland, New Zealand etc.), dj sets (Fabric, womadelaide, Big Chill etc.), television soundtracks (BBC1 series Human Planet), radio broadcasting (Nitin Sawhney Spins the Globe for BBC Radio2) and live performances around the world with his band from the Royal Albert Hall to Sydney Opera House.
For the above, Sawhney has received a MOBO, 2 Ivor Novello nominations, a Mercury prize nomination, a Southbank show award, a BAFTA nomination, 2 BBC Radio 3 world music awards , a New York Bessie and 15 other major national and international awards. Sawhney also holds 5 Honorary doctorates from 5 separate British universities and is a fellow of LIPA and Southbank university. He turned down an OBE in 2007 for ethical reasons.
