Into It. Over It. and Triple Crown Records proudly announce the September 24th release ofIntersections. The latest full-length album from the prolific Chicago based songwriter Evan Weiss, Intersections was recorded at the legendary Soma Electronic Music Studios by producer Brian Deck (Modest Mouse, Iron & Wine). Into It. Over It. will tour this fall in support of the new album, including headline shows and an extensive run of dates this September and October as direct support for Saves The Day. Upcoming tour dates below.
Intersections builds upon an impressive catalog spanning multiple LPs, EPs, cassettes, and split recordings including among many others, including Braid's Bob Nanna, Daniel Johnston, and a full-length split with KOJI that was named one of the Associated Press's "Most Overlooked Albums of 2010". Long a collaborator and contributor to many different bands (including current involvement in Pet Symmetry and Their/They're/There along side Mike Kinsella), in 2007 Weiss began recording his own work under the name Into It. Over It. His goals were ambitious from the start as he set out to write, record, and release a new song for free every week for the entire year. These songs would later take the form of a double CD titled 52 Weeks. The brutal sincerity in his lyrics and compositions, and the months upon years lived out of a van playing any basement and club that would have him have earned Weiss an incredible following of devout fans.
Half a decade later Weiss has put out as much material as many musicians would struggle to release in twice the time. Such a prolific nature might overwhelm to the point of fatigue, but he has always kept his approach to songwriting and recording fresh. On Intersections Weiss took pains to rework the playbook. "We wanted to try new things and make something that didn't sound like any other Into It. Over It album," Weiss explains. In order to accomplish this, Weiss decided he would write the entire album without using a guitar pick, while drummer Nick Wakim strategically eliminated certain cymbals and drums in order to enhance the creativity.
Fans need not worry about a new musical direction taking away from the honesty behind Weiss' songwriting. "All of my records are almost hyper-personal to a fault and I've been trying to keep it that way since the beginning," Weiss explains. While the concept of the album started out centering around different intersections in Chicago, as the writing progressed the concept itself became another happy accident as it shifted toward intersections in Weiss' life, making each song a tiny snippet into where things were in the past and how that impacts today.
Taken together the result is an album as expansive as Weiss' musical vision.
