To celebrate the signing of Gentle Friendly, FatCat Records are pleased to present'Rrides', a free-to-download, compilation of seven tracks from the band's back catalogue as well as a brand new unreleased track, 'Autumn Nite' which will appear on the forthcoming album, and another previously unreleased older track, 'You Are The Brother'.
Including tracks from releases on notable London DIY labels No Pain in Pop andUpset The Rhythm, 'Rride' gives a distillation of the band's particular brand of future Englishness, a blend of circular melodies, tidal fuzz and sliced up, insistent rhythms. Listen here...
Operating with an austrere setup of a Casio keyboard, vocals and drums (sometimes electronic) the band push against the pop boundary and have been compared toHealth, Ponytail and FatCat alumni No Age by Uncut, while Pitchfork even citedClipse and Lil Wayne as influences on the band. New track 'Autumn Nite'showcases the band as more than the sum of these parts, incorporating warped and distorted keyboards, urgent yet strangely mournful vocals and propulsive drums into a song which could only be Gentle Friendly's.
This is what the band themselves have to say about the EP:
"History is a circle so here's seven songs of the past/future/present of Gentle Friendly. From the ones we finished this year for our new record to the ones that got lost along the way, these songs are where we are, were and will be as a band in 2014 - it feels like we've come a huge long way. Sing new songs over the old ones. Happy new year!"
Set in the beautiful Swiss Alps, Youth sees Michael Caine & Harvey Keitel in a fine piece of work.
New reports indicate that eagerly awaited albums by Adele and Coldplay are set...
