Casual Sex Announce 'The Bastard Beat' Ep Out 11 November 2013

Matured, Emboldened, Experienced: This is the sound of Casual Sex after a summer of festivals, sell out records and touring. We find their skins thicker, their musical ideas tighter, their instruments sharper and thoughts perhaps, a little darker on this brand new record, The Bastard Beat EP.

Conceived, gestated and birthed in their musical home, Glasgow's Green Door Studio - you'll find various familiar yet unfamiliar sonic 'genes' dominating and mutating throughout The Bastard Beat EP, ultimately congealing into something that hints not only at the band's masterful application of its rich aural heritage but of its ever increasing forward momentum -  it seems the band are racing towards a truly exciting musical future. And to my ears, The Bastard Beat EP is the perfect stepping stone.

Lulling listeners with its heavenly charm, an anthem for those enamoured with the lush life, Nothing on Earth opens proceedings with a smooth, heady groove before the no-nonsense, jackboot-heavy swagger of title track, Bastard Beat marches into earshot, grinding all previous pretences into the ground with its politically-minded, military-precision exercise in danceable musical restraint.

Casual Sex open side B with bold statement, The Sound of Casual Sex. A group of musicians clearly sick of neutered, 'nice' entertainment; the snarling vocals and pummelling, punk rhythm reanimates the 'bite' and embodies the 'balls' missing from modern music. Then Again is an experiment in musical bondage, if you will, and its resultant, explosive release before the record is terminated with a twisted ode to a former lover in the inebriated shuffle of What's your Daughter For?.

Sam Smith sings and plays guitar, Edward Wood plays guitar, Peter Masson plays bass and Chris McCrory plays drums - they write all their own songs, produce all their own records and references are available on request.

The 'Bastard Beat EP' is released on 11 November through We Can Still Picnic and available on limited edition 12" vinyl and digitally through all reputable outlets.
