Al Murray To Present New Show On Planet Rock Starting May 26th 2013

Planet Rock, Bauer Media UK's award-winning national digital radio station, has bolstered its on-air talent by adding top British comedian and broadcaster Al Murray to its presenter line-up.

Starting May 26th, Murray will present a weekly Sunday morning show - Defender of the Planet Rock Tradition - from 10am-12pm. Alongside the classic rock music, regular features will include Universal Riffs of Power celebrating classic guitar riffs, Let There Be Drums hailing the best drum beats in rock and Re-issue, Re-release, Re-born looking at the week's big re-release.

Ric Blaxill, Music and Content Director for Planet Rock, said: "Combine Al's talents as a great comedian and experienced broadcaster alongside his love of rock music and drumming skills, and you've got a brilliant addition to the Planet Rock team! His show promises to give Planet Rock listeners the perfect start to Sunday mornings."

Al Murray said: "As the world faces a relentless assault of cardboard cut-out pop - Planet Rock is the last bastion of amps, riffs and axes, it's an honour to be asked to do my bit."

Murray is one of the most recognisable and successful comics in the UK with his alter-ego, The Pub Landlord. Over the last few years, he has hosted an array of TV series, including British Comedy Award-winning Al Murray's Happy Hour. He has also appeared on programmes such as The Royal Variety Performance and Live at the Apollo, and released six bestselling live DVDs following a host of sell out tours across the world.

Murray has also completed four series of 7 Day Sunday, a unique look on the week's events hosted on BBC Radio 5 Live and appeared as the guest editor for the New Year's Day episode of The Today Programme on BBC Radio 4.

Murray joins Planet Rock's stellar presenter line-up which already boasts Alice Cooper, Paul Anthony, Wyatt Wendels, Darren Redick and Def Leppard's Joe Elliot.

The announcement follows the sale of Planet Rock to Bauer Media UK in February, joining Bauer's growing portfolio of national radio brands including Kiss, heat, Kerrang!, The Hits and Magic.

March 2013 also saw Planet Rock announce Ric Blaxill as Music and Content Director, with Alex Baker promoted to Head of Commercial Programming for Planet Rock and Kerrang! Radio and Liz Barnes promoted to Programme Manager.
