*File Photos* * QUAID GIVEN POLICE ESCORT TO HOSPITAL LATEST: Actor DENNIS QUAID and his wife KIMBERLY were given a police escort to a Los Angeles hospital on Friday (23Nov07). The couple were forced to seek out help from cops after a swarm of photographers made it impossible for them to drive to the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center to visit their critically-ill newborn twins. Quaid had repeatedly asked the assembled paparazzi to stop following his car, but his requests were ignored, reports website TMZ.com. The incident happened just days after the Quaids pleaded with the press to respect their privacy while their babies Thomas Boone and Zoe Grace - born on 8 November (07) - fight for their lives following an accidental drugs overdose. The twins are currently in intensive care in Cedars-Sinai after they were given 10,000 unit doses of anti-coagulant Heparin by mistake, instead of the standard 10 units. On Tuesday (20Nov07), the hospital's chief medical officer, Michael L. Langberg, admitted the error was "preventable" and involved "a failure to follow our standard policies and procedures". The babies are 53-year-old Quaid's second and third children - he already has a 17-year-old son with his ex-wife Meg Ryan. * POLICE RAID WINEHOUSE'S LONDON HOME Singer AMY WINEHOUSE's London home has become the scene of an ongoing investigation following a police raid on Thursday (08Nov07). The Rehab hitmaker has not been arrested and police have not revealed why her Camden house was targetted, although forensic photographers were reportedly seen entering the property. Winehouse and her husband Blake Fielder-Civil were not thought to be at home at the time of the raid. A police spokesman says, "We can confirm there is police activity as part of an ongoing police operation." A spokesman for Winehouse denies drugs are involved in the investigation. He says, "The only thing I can tell you is that it has nothing to do with drugs and that Amy is fine and she has not been charged or arrested." Last month (Oct07), Winehouse and Fielder-Civil were arrested for marijuana possession in Norway last month (oct07). Cops did arrest four men, aged from 19 to 25, elsewhere in the same operation on suspicion of perverting the course of justice. (GES/WNWCPL&WNWC/KL) London, England - 09.11.07

* GOULET DEAD AT 73 Veteran singer/actor ROBERT GOULET has died. He was 73. The Broadway star passed away at Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on Tuesday morning (30Oct07), after doctors failed to find a suitable donor transplant to treat the lung disease, Interstitial Pulmonary Fibrosis. Goulet was diagnosed with the illness in September (07), when he was taken to a Las Vegas hospital after feeling increasingly weak and suffering from a shortage of breath. He was transferred to the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on 13 October (07) to undergo an emergency lung transplant, after he had been diagnosed with the rare disorder. According to his wife, Vera, Goulet remained in good spirits up until his death, even joking with doctors to "watch my vocal chords" before they inserted a breathing tube. The Lawrence, Massachusetts-born Goulet began his career as a DJ in Canada, but became a Broadway sensation in the early 1960s after landing the role as Lancelot in hit musical Camelot, opposite Richard Burton and Julie Andrews. He went on to claim a Tony Award in 1968 for his role in Happy Time. His career as a crooner also won him high praise, and in 1962 he was honoured with the Grammy Award for Best New Artist. Goulet also became a regular on U.S. TV shows, playing cameos in The Jackie Gleason Show, Cannon, Police Woman and Fantasy Island, and his movie career saw him star in Atlantic City and Beetlejuice. He also provided the voice for Wheezy The Penguin in Toy Story 2. The star played his last performance in Syracuse, New York, on 20 September (07), where he performed his one-man show A Man and His Music, complete with a 15-piece orchestra. Goulet is survived by his third wife, Vera, and three children from his previous two marriages.
