Coronation Street's Antony Cotton has won the second series of ITV1's Soapstar Superstar after beating Emmerdale actress Hayley Tamaddon in last night's final.
The 31-year-old's rendition of Elton John's Daniel was enough to convince the judges and voting public that he was the deserved winner of the competition, which saw 11 soap actors pitted against each other in the crooning stakes.
Cotton, who plays Corrie barman/factory worker Sean Tully, said he was "absolutely gobsmacked" after winning £200,000 for the Elton John Aids Foundation.
"I was convinced it was Hayley," he said, fighting back The Tears.
The actor's other two songs in the competition's final had been Tears For Fears' Mad World and Boyzone's Love me for a Reason, while Tamaddon, who plays Delilah Dingle, had sung Jump by the Pointer Sisters, Atomic Kitten's Whole Again and Feels Like I'm in Love by Kelly Marie.
Other soap stars taking part in the show included Jane Danson, Coronation Street's Leanne Battersby, and Alan Fletcher; Dr Karl Kennedy of Neighbours fame.

JUNE POINTER, the youngest of the Pointer Sisters, lost her battle with cancer yesterday (11APR06) in Los Angeles. She was 52. According to a statement, the JUMP (FOR MY LOVE) singer died surrounded by her sisters, RUTH and ANITA, and her brothers, AARON and FRITZ. Pointer had been hospitalised in Santa Monica, California since February (06). June and her three sisters scored a number of hits in the late 1970s and 1980s after growing up singing in the choir of an Oakland, California church where their parents were ministers. After singing back-up vocals for acts like Taj Mahal and BOZ SCAGGS, the family group went it alone and released a self-titled debut album in 1973. They went on to pick up a Grammy Award in 1974 for Best Country Vocal (FAIRYTALE), but they really found their niche in the post-disco world, recording smooth tunes like SLOW HAND and dancefloor fillers such as I'M SO EXCITED. June Pointer left the group in the mid-1980s after tasting solo success with her solo debut album BABY SISTER in 1983. She also sang back-up to Bruce Willis on the actor's 1987 RESPECT YOURSELF hit.
Hudson, older brother of OSCAR-nominated actress Kate Hudson, admits he was a huge fan of FAITH singer Michael when he was a young boy, and attending his concert turned out to be a highly memorable experience.
He says, "The Pointer Sisters were sitting behind us smoking like tons of weed. I was 12 or 13 and the smell kind of came and I was like, 'I know that... I don't know where, but I know (what) that smell is.'"

Troubled singer JUNE POINTER has been accused of trying to gouge out her boyfriend's eyes with her fingernails.
The alleged attack occurred on 27 July (04) - just weeks after Pointer's boyfriend JOEL COIGNEY says he rented a Los Angeles apartment for them to share. He tells the NATIONAL ENQUIRER, "I tried to help her! I took her into my home for a month to get her drug-free. But all she did was go on a binge of crack cocaine, pot and margaritas."
Coigney, 62, who says he's driven the Pointer Sisters and has known June for four years, claims things turned sour for them when he opposed June's drug dealer visiting their home, resulting in her and a male friend attacking him in the night.
