Spanish opera sensation Placido Domingo will perform at this year's (06) Classical Brit Awards, where he will also collect a prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award.

The 65-year-old tenor, who has performed a staggering 92 operatic roles to date, is excited about returning to London's Royal Albert Hall for the ceremony on 4 May (06).

He says, "I'm truly delighted to be honoured with this very special award, and I look forward to returning to the Albert Hall."

British Phonographic Industry (BPI) chairman PETER JAMIESON says, "We are delighted that the great Placido Domingo, an artist who excels not just as a tenor but as a conductor, will be joining us."

The BPI founded the Classical Brits in 2000.
